Huge Zoom!

This camera is amazing. First of all, it has impressive image quality from the relatively small sensor, which probably means DIGIC 5 is doing its job really well (eliminating noise, correcting lens distortion, etc). The 24mm wide angle is superb for indoor shooting. The 840mm telephoto is WAY beyond what most people will ever need, and well beyond the ability to get a blur-free handheld shot (even with the IS). The slow-motion VGA movie mode (120 fps) is AWESOME! My only gripes are that this camera is nearly as big and heavy as my XTi DSLR, the plasticky body feels cheap and low-light performance is mediocre (even with handheld night scene).
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Flimsy Construction

This is a great camera with an amazing telephoto lens. I mainly shoot with a T2i (when is the T5i coming out?), but decided not to lug it, the accessories, and the telephoto lens (28-300) that I use to Jamaica.
Instead I brought this camera with me. The pictures that it took were nothing short of incredible. In fact, some of the shots I took as the sun was going down over the water were so good, the resort is using them on their website.
My only complaint is that it is not always able to focus in low light perfectly. I recommend that you take multiple pictures just in case. Of course, that is as much a function of the lighting as it is of the camera.
I haven't pulled the trigger on the new SX50, because this camera is so good.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I just bought this camera about two weeks ago, took some test photo's with it and fell in love with it right away, it has all of the features I wanted in a good quality camera, I purchased a lens hood for it, so I'm pretty serious about the camera, this is a product I would recommend to any one, who is out to purchase a good quality camera at an affordable price.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, easy to focus

Loved it at first, developing some problems

Right out of the box, I had a lot of fun with this camera. It worked beautifully, though the one thing that is hard and I wish could be changed is the abillity to control the focus a bit more (I focus on a certain thing, but the little focus box jumps around onto something else). The zoom is a winner! I've taken photos with this that I've only been able to dream of taking before. The low-light setting is excellent, even in poor lighting. This worked like a dream for easily 6 months, but then I began getting lens errors, and now I am getting a completely fuzzy picture in the view finder when trying to get a picture. This camera has been used a lot, but it has been babied--well cared for, lens cap on when not in use, stored in a zippered case to protect from dust. That said, I would still recommend it, but I am concerned about how long it will last as the lens error actually shuts the camera off, and there is no know reason for this. My 11-year-old has tried this and LOVES it.
Cons: lens errors frequently, hard to focus, slow from photo to photo

I wanted something to get great shots of our kids sports, back yard birds and good quality family photos. This camera covered all that beautifully and is still doing it. Easy to use, a lot of great shooting options. Play with it, learn what it can do and then shoot away.

A telescope with a camera attached.

This camera was purchased as a replacement for my A3300 IS. It by far exceeded my prospects for quality and features. I had for some time been wanting to purchase a camera that had a manual mode and a strong zoom when the SX40 HS was announced. Having the good fortune of borrowing one for a week, I was so satisfied with the unit that I purchased one from a local store. I have played with all the shooting modes and the settings and have found the following information: The battery life is good. I can shoot a day's worth of photos and videos for a small excursion on one charge. Charging is not long either. Flash is powerful; the camera has a shoe for an additional flash, but I have not found this necessary. Focus: my only complaint. The auto-focus is superb, but sometimes slow. Manual focus is cool, but hard to do as the only ring on the camera is a small ring on the back that takes a long time to rotate. Screen is great; variangle, high-quality. Zoom is UNBELIEVEABLE! It can shoot wide for huge landscapes and telephoto like a telescope. Overall, I am highly satisfied at this purchase and would reccomend this camera to anyone who is looking for pro-features in an inexpensive camera. I often quipped that I would like to have an adapter for my telescope so that I could put my A3300 on it. I no longer desire this as I have a camera with a telescope for a lens!
Pros: high zoom, ease of use, quality of materials, battery life
Cons: manual focus
