Wonderful Camera with a loud zoom.

The powershot sx 40 hs is my new favorite camera! i love everything about it except for: the zoom noise, the time it takes to focus, and the weight. the good things are: the image quality, THE ZOOM, the ease of use, and all of the cool functions and options. i photograph birds and nature. it is a quick, fun, and easy camera to use. it really took the term Point and Shoot into account. over all great camera. some good ad-ons are the price and the slow-mo.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, good zoom range
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, Heavy/Bulky, loud zoom noise

Great Photos

My wife purchased this camera the day before our vacation. With her other camera she was having problems capturing sunrises, sunsets, and night scenes. Once she got familiar with the controls, which took no time, she was taking pics like a pro. Our vacation pics are fantastic.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Flexible Camera

This camera is fun to use especially for my first time using something close to the professionals. My main selling point was colour vividness and having the option to turn that on or off when I want. Low light situations pose no problem as I can adjust settings like IOS, shutter and apperature. I've gotten some wonderful pictures of the moon during the day time and also at night which are clean and as crisp as I could take them. The other modes are also helpful when I want to get right to the point. Macro mode when a photo is taken properly shows superb results when doing image crop tests.
The grid helps with keeping the camera in line with the target and is clear on the LCD viewport and in viewfinder mode.
Battery life is wonderful as I've had small cameras die within a few hours. This camera has held up for a full day in terms of taking photos. With video mode after using the camera for stills it can last about an hour more for a total of 4 or 5hrs. The compact charger is perfect since I have a small space near the wall. The indicator lights green when it's done and as it mentions on the package it takes an 1hr and 50 minutes or so to charge. So if you are in a hurry this won't be a slow down.
The construction is sturdy and not cheap feeling and the outside wipes clean easily.
Those are the pros. The few cons I have is that it's small but not small enough to put in a bag or cargo pants pocket so I need to wear it out in the open when I go places. The LCD viewport is a bit hard to clean. I've used a microfiber lens cloth but it spread a finger print instead of cleaning it. Same with the lens (which is 100% my fault).
Those are the only cons I have and the pros outweigh them for myself. I do not at all regret making this purchase and am proud to own my first Canon brand product.

money well spent

I use this for everything! Love my pro camera/ +lenses but they aren't as portable as this camera, and it fits in my purse. I love it! Wild life photo's are incredible! Macro shots- unbelievable! Even shots of the moon are detailed! And it takes video. Wow! ;-)

This is such a great camera. I previously owned a sure shot camera and I cannot believe the photos I can take with this camera...It is easy to use and the photo quality is spectacular...The best investment I have made in a long time!!!!!

I went into the camera world a year ago and now I'm taking AMAZING pictures for what is considered a low end camera. I have taken it past the limits of the zoom many times with crazy accuracy and clarity

Best camera for NOT Being a DSLR

Love it... I am used to Canon brand, Best Canon ever.
It is the best camera for not being a Digital SLR! I've had other brands of cameras and not as satisfied. I mostly use my camera for sports events and car shows, I also love the 35x zoom... I was at the airport and the photos and the zoom were extremely good (quality and features). I really haven't been on any vacations or to any car shows since I got this camera.

Great Value, Great Camera

This camera replaced my powershot SX20IS, and I am loving it. They have made subtle improvements that have made a huge difference in the way the camera feels, and acts. It is by far one of the best non-DSLR I've ever used.
