Fix the manual speed and ISO limit!

Great camera, almost perfect for bridge camera - between compact and DSLR.
Only problem is the ISO limit and speed on the manual mode. This issue has been covered by many people, google it to see yourself. This shortcoming took 30% fun out of this camera.
Please fix it or at least increase the speed limit or more up ISO to maybe 400 in firmware update. Do something please!
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, durable, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use, good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu
Cons: Missing features/settings, iso and shutter speed in manual mode

Awesome Camera

I have been using this camera since Oct 11, love it. I take mostly nature and wildlife shoots, It's just a hobby but have taken beautiful photos. Love the zoom length. If you are looking for a small but powerful camera this is the one. If I could post one of my pictures from this camera the pictures alone could sell these cameras, that's how good it is. I also have a EOS Rebel Xsi which is great as well, but am looking to upgrade to better zoom to compete with Powershot SX40 zoom..
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, durable, Bright LCD, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

I love it but

I love it but, it does have ISO restriction for long exposure times. Manual control function should give full ISO, Aperture and shutter control. I own the Canon S3IS and still love it. Great picture quality for 6MP and still better than some cameras with higher MP/resolution. I wanted cmos sensor and longer zoom in an all in one/P&S camera. Still a few minor flaws I hope that Canon will address in a future firmware update. I have recently started taking night-time sky photos and would like better control of manual functions. At least ISO 400 at slow shutter speeds I realize I could go full DSLR but costs are more than I can afford for camera and assorted lenses. I'd like the Superfine jpeg resolution like on my S3IS back too.
Pros: good battery life, Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, durable, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, iso restriction and lack of superfine resolution

Excellent but with a few flaws

An excellent camera but not quite a DSLR yet (perhaps in another 2-3 generations), but the all in one bridge cameras are vastly improved.
Weakenesses were the weak AWB, macro not all that great, does take stitch shots but doesn't edit in camera, and no RAW (the most disappointing of all). Camera does struggle in dimmer light situations. Nosie levels are excellent.
To its credit, most of these shots would have been impossible without it's super 800mm lens and excellent image quality with the new Canon processor.
Battery durability was good with over 450 shots taken, but I also turn the camera off between every shots.
But the potent zoom and Canon excellent image quality make up for the rest. I'd give the camera a 4 out of 5.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Poor Low-Light Performance, no raw

Another good purchase

The primary reason I wanted the camera is related to the fact I can use an external flash, and the added bonus is that it has a great zoom range. The SX40 HS is a very capable camera, its photo quality is excellent especially up to a 11x14 inch print and packed with a lot of features. The 4 complaints I have are, 1)no RAW function (Yes I am aware that the New SX50 HS has the RAW function), 2)cost of the Canon batteries are little to high for my liking through their online store, 3) the availability of the battery in the brick and mortar stores is very limited or non existence , 4) need a special adapter to use filters on the camera, the thread is an odd size.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, can use external flash, ta manual settings a major plus, excellent zoom range, faster frame rate, adjustable lcd angle, metering excellent for a p&s camera
Cons: no raw, needs a control/front dial like in the new g15, needs a bigger lcd display

Excellent Camera

Have used the SX40 at home and traveling to France, Spain and Israel. Used primarily in auto mode but also have used manual mode for special situations. Produced excellent shots and videos in a variety of settings. The zoom lens is beautiful, just to test it, I did a max zoom on 2 birds standing on Masada ruins about 150 feet away and they came out crisp, clear and in focus. Picture quality in a variety of settings, from French & Spanish cities to Pyrenees mtns and Israeli deserts were all great in auto mode. Should say that I have had Canon digital cameras for years now and therefore are used to their controls, however I find them easy to use and straight forward. And I have never read the user guide, just use it for reference.
I Have another camera from a different mfr that has now been relegated to backup status.
Only downside is the size of the camera. It is not heavy but considerably larger than the normal digital model, had to get used to not being able to carry a camera in a belt case. This is why satisfaction received 4 stars instead of 5.
Pros: Good Low-Light Performance, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, excellent zoom lens
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
