Not worth the price

New home build by Khov with what seems to have been a bulk contract deal with this company. Knobs are as cheap as can be and don't last. Replacement knobs are expensive and hard to order. My suggestion, shop and buy your stove. Don't let your builder do it for you.

Attractive Cooktop

I purchased this product about a year and a half ago. It is a nice looking product, easy to clean, came with a handy griddle feature. But, converted to propane, the cooktop is very slow to heat up pots of water for items like pasta, or stock, etc. My large pot, probably 4-6 quarts took about 28-30 minutes to come to a boil. I recently replaced this cooktop with another GE product, an induction cooktop, which now takes the same pot less than 5 minutes and comes to a rolling boil.

Like everyone else. The knobs broke. This ridiculous and a safety hazard.

Stove is good - knobs are trash

Every 12-24 months you'll have to replace all the knobs. Currently the knobs are $25 each so figure out the total life cost and you've bought a new stove in 5 years.

Cooktop Grates Too High. Not energy efficient.
on October 10, 2012

Cooktop PGP986SETSS. Cooktops are generally not displayed in stores so the only way to buy them is looking at catelog or pictures online. This cooktop is good looking but its grates are desingned in such a way that those are too high about 2 inches from burner and then + grates are 1/2 inch thick. So it is 2.5 inches from burner and takes almost 7-8 minutes for making a cup of tea. Wheras in my old house I had a 12 year old gas range without a power burner that would make me a tea in 3 minutes in the same pan on the smallest burner. The august bill of gas in my old house was $30 on an average and in this house it is $65 when there is no heating on. So both houses can be compared. Can grates from any other series like cafe etc fit on it if they are lower.

Bad Gas cooktop

Builder put this product in our new home and we are not happy about it. The problem with this stove is that the grates are too tall, hence it takes longer to heat smaller pans and pots up than another stove. It takes 20 minutes to boil one cup of water when it used to take 2 minutes on our old stove. We love the features and the appearance, but we wish the grates were a quarter to half an inch lower. When I wipe the stove with wet sponge we get rusty stain marks.

Great looking, but grates are too high.

Was excited to have gas cooktop, but am terribly disappointed at how slow it is to heat. Unfortunately, it had been installed several months before I actually used it, so store-return wasn't possible. I contacted GE about grates obviously being too high away from heat source. Hoping they will provide better-fitting grates-----or replacement of unit.

Best buy for your money!!!

We've had this 36" cooktop for a few months now. As a former professional cook, I found this unit to be surprising. It's a professional cooktop for home...
Cleaning: It's super easy to clean. For a really good cleaning: Grates and burners come off easily. They can be put in the dishwasher, but we haven't had the need. A quick wipe usually does the job. Knobs stay in place well so a slightly more forceful pull is needed to remove knobs. Not sure if they can go in washer, but again, a wipe usually does it. I like to remove knobs to clean underneath. We use a simple counter spray like 409 to clean the surface. Wipe dry, then use a small amount of olive oil to polish the stainless steel. Olive oil is the big secret for stainless, if you didn't know already!
Performance: The center burner will boil water FAST! I forget how many btu's it has, but it's a lot. All other burners work well, also. The three mid-size burners vary in height to the grate so you can really hone-in on what you really want.
Skillet: Our set came with the cast-iron skillet that replaces the far left grate. You have to remove the grate in order to use the skillet. One knob actually controls both burners in the skillet mode. This is great because you can adjust low to high for both burners, and also be on a low setting on one burner while on a high-setting for the other burner. The knob and display are super easy, but I still always look under the skillet to make sure.
Overall: Great unit. I highly recommend it for the pro cook at home to the beginner!
