Epson Artisan 837 All-in-One Printer

I have been using Epson printers for years but I am very disappointed with this one. I have had ongoing issues with the paper feed. It is constantly jamming or feeding multiple sheets through and as I do a lot of Graphic design I bought it to use with various photo papers. It does not fees card stock or photo paper with any weight at all. The paper feed system is just very flimsy.

Epson Artisan 837

The positive about this printer is the quality of the prints, I think everybody will agree that on that regard is hard to beat an Epson printer. However, when it comes to printing documents and specifically regular envelopes (the 4.5 inch by 9.5 inch, standard size) The printer loading mechanism has a lot to wish for. It is by far the slowest, most frustrating experience you will deal with.
Epson really needs to work on their printer's loading mechanism.
Its just not acceptable and makes me not want to purchase an Epson printer ever again.

Parts are hard to find. their is no clear source for replacement parts for this printer. I have a broken holding tray for printed documents. No way to replace it. It appears to just snap in place.

I have really enjoyed the Epson 837 printer for several months now.
Listed below are the advantages:
- VERY affordable price
- Perfect photo print colors
- Flawless duplexing for two sided copies EVERY time.
- Document feeder works perfectly for faxing or copying multi-page documents.
- Group Faxing facilitates faxing media to multiple people simultaneously.
- Comes with labeling software and prints inkjet printable DVDs & CDs (this is the only printer that I have found that does this) <-- THIS IS MY FAVORITE FEATURE!!!
- Air Print compatible so that I can print directly from my iPhone to the printer via my home WIFI network.

Artisan 837 paper weight

This is the second Epson Artisan print I have owned in as many years. I would personally never purchase another Epson Ink jet printer. I only print once a month or so and the heads dry up and will not clean running through the processes. The Artisan 837 just sit like a big paper weight. When I first purchased the printer it produced great looking pictures. Unfortunately that was a short lived experience.

Good Printer for Printing on printable DVD's
on May 1, 2016

A major job I have for my printers printing DVD's. I had been using an Epson Aritsan 835 for several years, but needed to have a backup machine in case it failed. Since I had had such good service from the old 835 and since they both used the same ink cartridges It was obvious that my second printer should be the Artisan 837.
As expected, the 837 is a bit faster than the 835. Periodically, the 835 was inconsistent regarding duplexing -- To this point, the 837 has had no problems. (Since the problem on the 835 intermittent, I always suspected that differences in humidity or perhaps the natural slight curl that paper has may be the problem. I always use 24# paper.) The scanning capabilities seem quite good, but to be consistent, the auto feed will not tolerate paper that has been folded or wrinkled.

Took a little time to set up but seems to work well so far with my two desk tops and my new macbook pro which is running lion. Needed to download software from epson for lion because cd did not have the 10.7 software that was needed. There was no problem with the download and seems to work well. Hope printer works as good as it looks.

Best in Class
on September 29, 2011

I have just purchased the Artisan 837 to replace my 810 in which the auto sheet feeder for fax and scanning died (worked great for 4 years.) Everything else worked great but occasionally use the feeder. As always Epson comes through with an outstanding product, After extensive research in the same class of printers I discovered that I needed to stay with Epson. Effortless wireless setup, and I was up and printing in 5 minutes or less. It took longer to get out of the box than to setup! I do however wish Epson would put a full-range paper guide on the auto sheet feeder replacing the current design which allows for virtually no adjustment other than that for its class it is an outstanding printer.
