I hope this one lasts longer

I have owned the 2 previous versions of this printer. The last (Artisan 835) only gave 18 months of service before it died. The plastic gears in the paper feeder are the weak link. I stick with the Epson because I like the separate ink cartridges, but if this one breaks before the 2 year point, I'll be shopping for a different brand.

WOW. Just WOW.

This is my second Artisan printer, so part of this review will contain observations of the brand as a whole, but here goes.
Wow. I had difficulty finding this printer in stock because it is fairly popular. No surprise there. I was able to find one out of box, but they said they were sorry but they didn't have the software or drivers. Having dealt with Epson before, I did not have many qualms because when I got a new desktop I had needed to get drivers for my old printer from them and it had been a painless process. That was again the case. I decided that this time I was going to set up wireless, so I braced myself and dove in. I got bit intimidated when a screen popped up that said I would need an SSID# and password, but I bravely hit continue anyway. The machines took over and I occasionally tapped a key or two when prompted. When the time came to put in the dreaded numbers, the printer looked around, found my WIFI and asked me to confirm if that was the correct network. WOW! All that great fretting wasted. I signed up for EpsonConnect, and off we went. We forwarded emails, printed stuff directly from various wireless devices, printed some pictures and just generally had a high old time.We had a couple of glitches along the way, but those turned out to be operator error, we were making things too hard on ourselves trying to forward stuff instead of just PRINTING DIRECTLY from our wireless devices.
The print quality is fabulous, I am a semi-professional photographer and I haven't had to go to someone else to print my smaller work since I got my first Epson. The inks run out quickly if you do not get the high-capacity, but those last for an extraordinarily long time, I was amazed at the difference.
All told, I only regret the lack of more stars and a thesaurus full of superlatives.

I have used Epson products successfully before. And I assume that this printer will work as promised, but after several hours this evening, I still haven't been able to get the paper to feed properly. Your instructions were not complete enough. Perhaps the comb looking gadget in the back was loose in the first place. I have no way of knowing.
Tomorrow I will go back to the store and have them show me how to load the paper. Maybe I truly have a lemon, but I suspect it's a combination of poor written communication and poor design of the paper cassette.
I'll submit another review when I have a chance to actually use the printer.

Does the job

The Epson Artisan 837 does the job, and well. Printing is quick and photo quality is outstanding. I am an Epson printer fan, because Epson does the best photo printing!
However, I do not like the paper loading process, it's a paper tray located on the bottom of the printer, and is difficult and tedious to pull out. If you want to use a specialty paper like letter sized glossy or letter sized presentation paper, you will have to pull out the paper tray and load the paper separately. Complicating this is the problem it has of continually grabbing 3-7 sheets of paper instead of just one. I don't think I'd buy this type of printer again, preferring a paper feed that loads from the top (as my old Epson Printer did).

Jams EVERY time, can't handle printing multiple pages EVER. I have to pull the tray out and load a piece of paper ONE at a time. It is SLOW and clunky. Expensive, yet unreliable. Very disappointed in this printer!

originally I loved this printer. I am now very unhappy with it. Shortly after the warranty expired so did the printer. I was told the closest authorized Epson repair center was in Oak Brook and I could not buy parts. They no longer make this model and the replacement model was on sale in addition I would receive a loyalty discount. I bought the new model which I think is cheaply made and uses expensive ink cartridges that do not last very long. My impression is that Epson products are no longer worthy of my recommendation.

My particular printer prints out the absolute worst pictures I've ever seen. It's got something to do with the paper feed process.
If you buy one, try printing a picture immediately to make sure it works. Don't wait until after the warranty is up like I did. That was one expensive Lesson learned.

Would not purchase again

I first purchased this all-in on printer over a year ago. It was replaced two months ago because large red splotches appeared on printed page. This was after cleaning the heads several times. The printer also uses a lot of ink. The replacement printer worked fine for about a month but then red splotches returned. After cleaning heads again worked fine for a while but red splotches are back.
