Good photo printing & scanning, bad paper handlin

Setting it up is a snap.
Networking is great.
Scanner is a really high resolution one.
Website is great.
Photo printing is really good, although it does like to use ink (don't they all).
Dealbreaker for me (I'm in an office environment) is the paper handling. Feeds more than one sheet and not just rarely.
A better pick would probably have been the A730.
Epson makes really good photo printers. I have no doubt of that now.
Does Epson make really good multifunction machines? Well, maybe, but this is definitely not one of them.
Well, maybe some day.

SETUP A LITTLE CONFUSING, BUT OTHERWISE GREAT

There is a small YELLOW rectangular shaped plastic item inside the printer which is there for some shipping purpose. It must be placed in the proper place or the printer will not setup correctly. It apparently was placed in the wrong place for shipping when I received the printer. I moved it to the place I thought the instructions indicated, WRONG! It is to remain in the position in the back. Very frustrating having gone through the setup many times before I realized it must be moved.
Otherwise great set up and happy with unit

Good, but could be better

I've had the Artisan 827 for about a month now. I have had a several other printers and a couple of 4 in 1s before this.
Having a home office and a limited budget, a good 4/1 is best for me. Also, as a photography hobbyist I'd like one that is a great photo printer as well.
Set up was pretty simple though it seemed to not like trying to be connected USB and wireless so I left it just wireless. I utilized setup on the computer rather than doing it all on the touch screen.
The touch-screen is nice quality with simple menus once set up. I use it rather than going through the computer, for scans. Seems quicker that way to me.
The A 837 does a very nice job of photo printing and is great at high res. The 4x6 tray is convenient for quick prints either to keep, or printed low res for review or test.
As an office printer it leaves a little to be desired. Normal or high quality documents, B&W or color come out good. But draft is quite pale or gray, not quite enough ink on the draft. And, as I've seen in other reviews, it frequently (maybe 20-25% of the time) will grab 2 sheets in draft. Well, if you're printing a 2 sided draft, that's a real problem and pain. Single or 2 sided quality prints have worked well.
Copying and scanning are good, though a bit slow. It would have been nice, esp on a pretty top-end model, if it also did 2 sided copy and scan. That, and fixing the draft problem, would make this unit about perfect for me.
As it is, I'm relatively happy with this unit, but not totally. Overall I'd give it a 4 of 5.
Photo printing 5
Scan/copy 3+ (doc feeder nice plus but slow and no 2 sided)
Fax 4
Screen/menu 4+
Noise 4+
Normal/high print 5
Draft 2+

epson all in one Artisan 837

I was a previous owner of an artisan series all in one printer and much to my sadness I wore out the Artisan 735. Everyone in my household used this printer. My wife for her cooking recipes, my son for labeling his CD's and DVD. He is great at graphic work. My self I used this machine for everything it did and more. It was used primarily by me for family pictures, copying important documents and overall printing of any nature. The pictures were absolutely wonderful in detail, color rendition, sharpness and quality of print. I no longer go to the photo shop for picture development, because there is no comparison. The printer was extremely reliable and dependable and I hope I don't wear this one out. Do you know how difficult it is to find a printer that prints on dvd/cd's. The 837 has already shown it self a better machine and I am sure it will stand the test of time

Epson Artisan 837 printer

This epson printer makes utterly fantastic color photographs. The only drawback to these high quality printers is that they self-destruct after printing 700 to 900 full size photographs. You get an error message saying "the ink pads are full" and the printer shuts down. You can get a temporary reset from Epson which is good for 30-40 more prints and then it shuts down again, which requires you to send it to Epson service facility to get the ink pads replaced and the counter reset. (Expensive) and the printer is out of commission until service is completed. It costs about the same to simply purchase a new printer.
Setting up the printer for wireless operation is usually more difficult then it needs to be, but when it is set up, it is wonderful not to be tethered to the printer.
I own 4 Epson printers for printing photographs.
13" x 19", 81/2 x 11".
