Sheet feeder - cannot do a single sheet
on March 1, 2012

The Printer does a lot of things BUT if your paper is longer than the sheet feeder OR the paper does not "Fit" the available sizes you're unable to print. Also you cannot do a single sheet at a time. You have to take out the tray insert the paper. put the tray back in and repeat. So changing from paper to envelopes you have to go through a bunch of steps. This Device NEEDS a single sheet feeder tray adapter

The Epson Artisan 837 all in one printer is nothing short of fantastic.
However, I would like to know how to use the ADF double sided with OCR. That would make this machine absolutely complete.
Using the phone with Epson is very good, too!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

I originally bought this printer because my printer was 8 years old and it was time to upgrade. I found a great price on the Artisan 837 and after reading reviews, I decided to make the purchase. I am so glad I did! I never did a lot of photo printing before, but with this printer, I know it's inevitable that I will become one of many who print their own for xmas cards and crafts. Also, one of the reasons I bought this printer is because EPSON was recommended by quilters who print photos on fabric to make memory quilts. I have never made a quilt before, nor tried printing on fabric, but my test runs of photo printing on fabric is amazing. With the Claria inks, you do not get any excess ink run off when you wash the fabric...so no waste of precious ink. Amazing scan clarity and excellent photo printing quality. Also, the standard printing is great too, fast and clean. I look forward to several projects ahead with this amazing printer. It's so worth the cost of the printer and the ink! I know the items I make will last for years and years and as an added bonus...it was SUPER EASY to do. I don't like a lot of complicated directions, not that I could't figure it out, but I don't have a lot of time. Make the purchase if your debating, you will not regret it.

2nd Artison 800 series printer

This is a nice printer....for clarity and function...till it's done! My first Artisan 800 lasted barely 2 years and the print heads wore out...suggestion from Epson: Buy a new printer. So I bought this Artisan 837...same great print quality BUT - neither of them handle paper very well. Constant paper jams if you use anything other than plain 20# paper. I need a printer that will handle heavier paper....business cards for one, card stock, etc. I thought these were supposed to have sensors in them for the paper as they certainly don't give the option of selecting various paper types other than photos and plain paper. This is a flaw within the whole printer industry the last couple of years!

Why so difficult to print gray scale?
on October 28, 2012

Overall I've been pretty happy with the printer except for the gray scale functionality. I generally print things in black and white, and although I've tried to force the printer to print in grayscale instead of the four color mix, I've had no luck. The four colors deplete before the black and although there is plenty of black ink I'm forced to replace the color cartridges in order for the printer to work!

Poor print quality

Was hopeful to print quality prints of my artwork with this machine...but was gravely disappointed with the forever dark lines gracing the prints. I spent ENDLESS hours trying different settings recommended by the manufacturer and I used their papers only. Still, those lines come out every single time I print. Very disappointed. Kept thinking it was me, but I am hopeful to return this printer and go buy a different one altogether. I spent way too much time and money on their ink and special papers only to be disappointed and lose lots of valuable time.

Nice features but terrible reliability

I Bought the artisan 837, because of the print disk feature. But I returned it the next day due to hardware failure. The replacement unit lasted 61 days, another hardware failure. Epson replaced the second unit with a refurbished unit--no idea its age--and put a hold on my credit card for the MSRP of a brand new unit until the bad unit was returned.
