I LIKE IT!

SO FAR EVERYTHING HAS BEEN A CINCH- SETUP, COPY, SCANNING, PRINTING, ETC. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN MY "EPSON ARTISAN 730" A 5 STAR RATING, BUT EPSON SEEMS TO NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE APPLE /MAC OS X OPERATING SYSTEMS UPGRADES-- MAKING IT NECESSARY TO DOWNLOAD SOME OF THE DRIVERS AND APPS TO USE THE UNIT TO IT'S FULLEST. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS COIN, IN FAIRNESS, I CALLED TECH SUPORT AND THEY HAD THE ANSWERS, AND WALKED ME THRU-- NO COMPLAINT HERE. OVERALL- "I REALLY LIKE IT!"

I would probably give the 730 a rating of 3.5 stars but we can't select a half-star option. I bought this unit to replace a Stylus 420 and to work alongside my 2880 photoprinter. The specific job it's utilized for is to print directly to disk. The quality of Epson inks is unsurpassed for photos and the disks I've printed have turned out excellent.
With that said it fails in the area of media management. Although the disk prints have been flawless so far the construction of the disk tray is so flimsy I'm afraid it will break at any moment.
I much prefer the full paper tray rather than rear stackers as it tends to keep dust and debris out of the machine better. But the design of the 730's tray is poor. The printer end of the tray comes off at an angle so it's very difficult to add paper without fully removing the tray, placing the paper in, then tapping it gently to flush all the paper to the back. Additionally, I have yet to be able to print on 8.5x11 premium photo paper without first removing all the plain paper. It simply will not pick up the photo paper without bringing a plain sheet with it.
It still gets a decent rating because of the quality of the prints though.

Unpack,, setup

My advise,, be very careful unpacking, don't try to force anything,, the parts move very easily once you figure out how they are supposed to move. Get ALL the tape off. Follow the "Start Here" guide to the letter and it's a breeze to install. I'm up and running and if the trial page printed is typical,, then the printing quality is excellant. I'm concerned about how long the ink will last. I bought this for printing labels on cd's and dvd's,, will post more after I know about that.

I have owned Epson printers for years. The Artisan 730 replaces a Stylus 320 that served me well. It's amazing how much they've improved the technology and performance of their printers. I've printed over 700 CD-DVD labels and covers for my own library. Nothing else on the market can do what an Epson does and make it look so professional. I love this new 730 for it's versatility. We'll see if it last as long as my old one did!

The Whole Truth...Epson Artisan 730

This is my 4th generation Epson photo/cd printer, and I am impressed. The wireless functionality is amazing and simple to connect. My former Epson printer required 8 ink cartridges vs 6 to the latest, yet detail or brilliance has not been compromised...it actually improved! My recent output of 8x10 photo prints, razor sharp cd imprints, customized scanned images, and standard documents have been more than satisfactory.
If I had one critic of the overall package it would probably be the lack of detail in the printer's manual. My comfort level with former versions of the printer was a great resource, However, I did have to contend with a little trial and error for a lack of info the manual failed to provide.
Overall this is the best printer I've worked with and I love Epson's commitment to excellence and dependability in its product line.

Printer does well for simple tasks such as printing letter size plain paper. Jams when using heavier papers...has no setting for heavy papers, card stock. Will not feel mailing labels at all. Printing protos works pretty well. Good printer for limited usage, but I would not recommend it for a home office requiring different types of pagers, cards and mailing labels.

Great Little Printer That Could

I've owned many printers over the years, but never one from Epson. I have to tell you, I LOVE THIS PRINTER!
I didn't know at first whether the multiple cartridges would be beneficial or just a pain. I can tell you, I am saving money on ink! Instead of replacing the full color cartridge, I am replacing one small 'cyan' cartridge as that is what I use the most. Who knew!?!
The colors are vibrant, the printing is excellent and... it is FAST. I would HIGHLY recommend this printer to anyone who has a small business.

Don't BUY!

Terrible paper feeder! Can't put more than 4 pieces of plain paper and then it jams for the first 6 times. Won't feed photo paper at all and you can't put more than 1 sheet in at a time. Again it jams and will NOT feed. Do NOT buy! Waste of money.
