Think twice

I've had this printer for a few years now, and most of the time it prints just fine. But the issues I have with it are that the paper feed, for whatever reason, grabs 2-5 sheets when it prints so I waste a lot, especially when it partially prints on each staggered sheet. And yes, I fan my paper thoroughly before putting it into the cartridge. Also, I work in graphics and the fact that this printer mixes colors to get black rather than printing only from the black cartridge means I don't get a clean black, and I use up ink from the other cartridges when I don't have to. So be aware of that. And finally, although I can print wirelessly from my iPad, which I love, it appears that I cannot change my printer settings for things like printing in black/grayscale only, without turning on my pc. So I would not recommend this printer to anyone, and I will definitely not buy another one if these qualifications are not met.

Impressed

I just purchased the Artisan 730 and used it at an event for on-site printing. The printer is very fast and I was very impressed with the print quality.
After printing my 90th 4x6 I started getting warnings about low ink levels, so the 500+ sheet estimate for color prints using the low capacity (99) cartridges is a little low in my opinion.
Very good printer.

Worst printer ever

If the printer doesn't recognize a color ink cartridge, it can't print a black and white text document.
The cartridges run out of ink very quickly.
The photo quality is terrible.
We will not buy an Epson again!!!

Not worth the money

I spent a lot of money on this when I first graduated high school thinking I was getting the best one that would last throughout college. It worked for one semester and then won't work for months and months then I will fix one problem and print one thing and it'll have a new problem. SO many frustrated nights thanks to this product.

Scanning problem

I must register my disatisfaction. I have just finished setting up my new 730. This is my 4th and probably my last Epson printer. After downloading
the driver for Mac 10.7 I find that a scanning capability is not included. I'm debating whether or not I should return the printer.

What a GREAT value!

WOW! What a welcome surprise!
Everything I have read about the Artisan 730 is true; the photo quality and speed are in a class well above the price range of this printer. I expected the quality after reading all the good user reviews, but the speed astonished me!
Another "surprise" was the ease of setup on our home wireless network. I anticipated problems, since my wife's computer is (still) running Windows XP, and we can't get the 2 computers to talk to each other, although they share the internet connection through the Linksys router. But - after getting everything installed on the "main" (Win7) computer - getting the XP machine to recognize and use the printer was quick and easy.
Another thing I didn't expect was the high quality of the Full Auto Mode. My first experiment was scanning an old, faded, yellowed 3.5 x 5 photo from the early '70s, using the "Customise>Restore Color" feature of Epson Scan. The resulting 4 x 6 print was phenomenal!
I could go on and on about how pleased I am with the 730, but it is truly something that has to be experience first-hand to be fully appreciated. Highly recommended.

Artisan 730 - Good Printer
on December 4, 2011

I just recently purchased the Artisan 730, so I dont have ink useage data yet, but other than that, it seems to be a good printer.
It was a breeze to setup, and install the software, which was very nice as I am used to having problems with drivers or something every time I buy a new piece of hardware. I even allowed the install program to go online and search for firmware updates, and it found an update, installed it, and finished without a glitch! - NICE.
I scanned and printed a 4 year old photo, and it literally looks better than the original, probably because of the new photo paper, as I think the colors are exactly the same, so in other words it didn't change anything, it just simply reproduced a photo of at least equal quality.
It prints very crisp. I printed off some of my forms for work, and they are every bit as crisp and clean looking as you would want.
The unit is very clean and modern in appearance, which is nice. the display is very intuitive also.
There is a lower lid that flips up to cover the paper tray when not in use (almost disguising the unit so that people may wonder what it even is), that is automatically opened when you fire the 730 up. A nice touch Epson.
As far as the supposed wireless abilities, this is why my review does not have 5 stars. Yes you can print through your network wirelessly, but when you want to scan , you must hook up a USB cable (not included).
the print from anywhere feature through Epson Connect did not work until I accessed my account there and changed the email address for the printer from the default address Epson gave me, but not really a big deal.
Then I tried to use the app from the Android market on my Samsung Galaxy Tab to print from that device, and yes I can print photos, but the app says it does not support any of the file types for my docs through OfficeSuite Pro5. But again not the biggest deal in the world, because I can simply print from the PC.\
So all in all, I am pleased with my Artisan 730, as it is light years ahead of what I replaced. Thanks Epson
I am pleased with my purchase.

I have 2 other Epson printers that are still printing after many years of service; they are not capable of wireless printing though! So we bought this printer to print from the laptop in the other room. I was so impressed with the print quality that I went ahead and set my tower up to print my photos from the Artisan 730 too! I have printed several copies and they come out as good as the originals, printed a couple CD labels as well as a dozen or so photos. I also printed 4 pages of an owner’s manual and loved that it printed both sides of the paper! Saved me paper and the trouble of turning them over like I use to have to do before on multiple pages!
After a couple months of use it is a quality printer and I would buy again!
