Smaller and Quieter

I had a Office Pro 8500 that had too many copies in it's history. I ordered a Office Pro 8600 Plus and have been impressed. The unit is smaller, and quieter yet is faster making copies. The lid over the scanner appears to be a little flexible, but has not been an issue. If your older printer is having issues, you will be glad you upgraded to a new Office Pro 8600 Plus

Value for the Money

The value is awesome! I use this printer for work and home office. The installation software is very easy. The print speed is excellent for my needs. I am only disappointed that due to my work VPN requirements wireless is probably not going to be an option. I have not tried photo printing, but I do like the other features such as scanning to my work network address and immediately creating a .pdf file.

Don't like envelope handling
on December 24, 2011

The HP 8600 replaces an Officejet L7780. I like the 8600 very much more - better setup, better features, and seems faster and quieter but the envelope handling is worst. I print a lot of 1 time envelopes. With the L7780, I just flipped up a cover over tray 1 and put an envelope on top of the paper on the right side and it printed. Now I need to pull out tray 1, remove all of the paper, insert envelopes in the center of the tray, center the paper aliening slides, reinsert the tray and now I can print 1 envelope. Seems like a step backward.

Good, but could be better

When I unpacked my new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer, I learned that it was a little larger than the space I wanted it to fill. This was not unexpected, just disappointing. I set it up with little problem, inserting the ink cartridges and paper and connecting it to my computers, wirelessly. I noticed that the paper tray was only about 9 inches long. One of the selling points was that it could handle legal sized paper (8.5" X 14"). So, I went to the "Help" program, which confirmed that it could handle legal sized paper, but did not tell how. I downloaded the manual, which confirmed that it could handle legal paper, but also gave no instructions. There was a chart that showed that it did not duplex legal sized paper. That is a major problem, in my opinion. I tried customer service for my problem of loading legal sized paper. Several attempts were disappointing. Eventually, I took out the tray and removed the paper. After searching, I found a structure that did not appear to be a button and a label with an arrow saying, "LEGAL". Pushing the structure, I was able to expand the tray. Previously, when I inspected the tray, I did not take out the standard sized paper.
So, my complaints are:
1) It is unable to print on both sides of legal sized paper using the duplexer.
2) Poor, inadequate documentation.
3) Inadequately trained or illiterate customer service personnel.
4) Smaller would be better.

It took about 20 minutes to get it setup from start to finish. When done I was printing from 2 laptops, an iPhone and an iPad, and I could scan directly to the laptops. Probably the easiest printer setup I've ever experienced.
Aside from the setup, the printer is really fact with good print quality and resolution. It's feature rich, yet easy to use! I especially love the auto duplexing!
