Disappointed with design

I expected better from a GE design. The dryer door is a hazard it keeps closing while attempting to load and unload. It hits my shoulder and hits my head when I bring up clothes from the tub. I now remember to jam it open.
It has an intermittent horrible clanking sound when the washer is working.
It cleans and dries as well as my old washer of 20 years.
I have had it for 2 months.

These all-in-one units are a good alternative when space is at a premium and/or stackables are too pricey. It has great capacity, and appears to work well. Negatives - quality is average, and misses several features: tubs are not stainless steel, dryer door not reversible (no matter what anyone tells you), noisy, controls are click position and not universal, no light in dyer, no buzzer, no detergent fill. But, it does the trick, and sellers mostly price at below MSRP.

Tolerating this washing machine

I have been using this washer/dryer set for about a year. I miss our old washer/dryer, but I guess this is what we settle for in the days of "energy savings." (I don't really see the savings when we have to dry loads twice, and when the delicate cycle won't remove simple dirt--just a dirt smudge, not a stain--this delicate cycle is basically a light rinse with soapy water.) I agree with another reviewer who complained about the washer lid not being flat--not a good place to set your coffee. Also, the washer is my number one suspect in the disappearance of some lightweight articles of clothing over the past few months, but I have not confirmed that, so I give it a three rather than a two.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This laundry center is my first major appliance manufactured by GE. It fits well in a closet area off the kitchen and delivers a punch for its small size. It does make unusual sounds during the cycle which was a concern at first.

We should have made this purchase a very long time ago! This is a large capacity set, easy to use and has just enough settings! We previously had a front load, side by and I hated it. Smelly washer, no agitator and both washer and dryer were constantly having to be repaired. The control panel, being a push button, with all the bells and whistles. So glad we returned to a dial type control with an agitator which gets our clothes cleaner!

The unit is very nice and easy to operate for my Mother. The control knobs are centrally located and easy to turn for my mother with her arthritis.
