This was one of the first games my daughter had for the leapster explorer. She really enjoys it and still plays it quite often. Only downside is that it seems to be getting too easy for her now, really is no longer a challenge.

Daughters both LOVE this game, BUT it FREEZES!

First, let me start with the good. Out of the 15 or so games and apps we own, this is the only game/app that my kids fight over play time. They both LOVE this game. My kids are 3 1/2 and 4 1/2. I would recommend this as an Explorer game but NOT as a leappad game.
Now, the bad. Both my kids owned the explorers, and let me say, there was never an issue with this game freezing on the explorer. For Christmas, I purchased both of my kids the Princess Leappads and this is when the problems began. As numerous other parents have complained and ranted about, this game cannot be played on either of my kids leappad 2's because this game causes the leappad 2 system to completely freeze up. You can't push any buttons and get them to work nor can you even push the off button to restart the leappad system. The only thing I can do is remove the rechargeable battery pack to shut off the system.
Here is one big issue/concern I have over this inability to shut off the game. My kids have gotten frustrated with the game when it froze up, gotten up and left the system sitting on the couch/bed without telling me. I found the system a few hours later still turned on. The leappad had gotten extremely hot. The battery pack's extreme heat will shorten the life span of my kids leap pads as well as possibly catch on fire. One other time, my daughter was playing her leappad while riding in the car. She put it in her leappad case before I finished parking the car so I had no idea the leappad system was frozen again in the "on" position and left it in the car when we went shopping. A few hours later, I opened the case to give her the leappad for the drive home...It had been frozen in the on position for the hours that we had been shopping. While the weather was not hot that day, the leappad was extremely hot! It was too hot for my 3 year old to hold. My kids know to always turn off their game and put it away when they are finished, but until I found the source of the problem with it not being able to be turned off by my kids, I did not feel comfortable with my kids putting the game away until I had checked it to ensure it wasn't going to catch fire. I believe this game to have caused my kids Leappads to be unsafe and caused a fire hazard. I usually am near my kids when they are playing so I would know when it froze, but as every parent does, sometimes I am busy cleaning or cooking when my kids play and I don't always see when my child sits their toys down or think to double check that the game didn't freeze before they sat it down. I have confiscated this game from my kids due to safety concerns much to their disappointment.
It took me about 2 months to figure out that pet pals 2 was the cause of the system freezes. I thought it was the leappad itself initially, but the system has never frozen up on any game except pet pals 2. Please note: I have the cartridge version so possibly the downloaded version will work fine. I have read this will happen on the leappad if the cartridge is dirty and leapfrog said to clean the cartridge with compressed air on another site....didn't work. I had intended to sell my kids explorers, however, I can't because they still play this one and only game on the explorer. I am extremely disappointed in this game to say the least. In the 5 months that my kids have gotten their leap pads, this game is my only complaint.

This was my 5-year-old's favorite cartridge for a long time. The game won me over when I saw her working hard for "doggy dollars" so she could purchase a new outfit for her dog. I like that she is introduced to the importance of working for cash and money management at such a young age. Now she fully understands when we tell her that we can't afford everything that she sees on TV. Also, she asked if she could have a dollar for pulling up weeds in the garden and then used the dollar for a pack of candy. I honestly believe it was the game that taught her to work for it.
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids, Grows with child, Good for on-the-go play

Ok my son loves the game and it's very cute, but it constantly freezes! I tried contacting support and none of their "fixes" fixed the problem. When my son plays it, it freezes on him after 5-15 mins of play. Very disappointed with the quality of this game, but it has potential to be up to parr with leapfrog products if the glich was fixed...rated 3 stars bc of that and bc my son loves it
Pros: Educational, Fun for kids

Hello!
We were made aware of this bug and a fix has been implemented. We would suggest plugging your device into LeapFrog Connect on your computer and allowing the update. Once done the game will no longer freeze.
Thanks!
