Freezer Woes

I love the look, size and layout of this unit, however, I am now on my second unit and it, too, is broken. The first unit had to be replaced entirely because neither the refrigerator nor freezer would cool and there appeared to be electrical problems. I have had the replacement refrigerator about a month and now the freezer's compressor is broken. I came home to find water all over my brand new kitchen and all the groceries in the freezer were ruined. I had to wait a week for an authorized repair person to look at the unit and they advised that the freezer's compressor must be replaced (will take another week or more to get replacement). The compressor on the refrigerator side is still cooling, but I am concerned that it, too, may fail.
I thought the first broken unit was just bad luck, but the fact that the replacement unit failed in under a month makes it seem more like an inherent flaw.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The ice maker is terrible!!!!!!

I have all kitchen aid appliances and they were installed in 2013. To date I have had to have the servicemen out a number of times to service the range (the main board was faulty and had to be totally replaced the first year and I am someone who only uses the oven to heat up tots!!), microwave (it was not turning off after we would open the door and it would not always turn on when we pressed start - we had to play with it - that also happened in the first year) and worst of all the refridgerator (the ice maker does NOT work). A total of 3 service calls on the refridge(all for the ice maker). We entertain a lot and the ice maker is terrible. Once emptied it takes a good week to fill back up and it never completely fills up because of a laser beam that informs the freezer it is full when it is not. Todays visit confirmed that there is nothing we can do about it becuase between the laser and the ice not leveling correctly when it freezes the ice machine will not work correctly. We asked if there was a way that we could go in and adjust things manually and the serviceman told us we would have to take the unit apart to do that!!! I have been very disappointed with the kitchenaid series we bought and will never again purchase or recommend kitchen aid. If you are buying this fridge and need an ice maker research another one because you will not be happy! If the ice maker is not important order away!!!!!

The ice & water dispenser is a little complicated. My doors don't close easily.

Keeps food fresh or for a longer period of time - plenty of room - Icemaker is great, which I've had a problem with other models in the past. Lots of compliments from my guests very attractive. Would definitely recommend.

Bought it 8 months ago with our new home. Very spacious, the light gets brighter as you open the door. Beautiful lighting in the ice dispensing bay with many great features.

Very large for a counter=depth model

This refrigerator was part of the appliance package for our new home. We had room for a counter-depth model and this fit perfectly. In addition, it was quite large inside. The only thing we don't like about it is that the vegetable drawer is difficult to fit large vegetables in it without completely removing it from the refrigerator. The filter in the vegetable drawer works well and preserves food way beyond my expectations. However, the little gage included that is supposed to tell you when to change it is constantly falling out rendering it nearly useless. I consider the issues I've had as poor design. KitchenAid has always been considered a premium brand. Based on this experience, I can't say the design quality and even the build quality is up to par. The doors are wavy and slightly pinched at the top on the outside and from experiences others have complained about, I don't want them changed out despite the poor cosmetics. At least this particular one worked well right out of the box. Previous experience with a faulty KitchenAid refrigerator and their inability to fix the product would make me leery of recommending this particular product. This is the reason I did not buy the extended warranty. Why would I want to pay a lot of money and still be aggravated if the refrigerator stops functioning?
