I'm extremely happy with my Defender Series case for the Droid Maxx XT1080 phone. This case has all the durability we've come to expect from Otterbox, but this case also has a refined, sophisticated look and feel that was a pleasant surprise.
Especially well-designed is the holster and the way the case engages with it. A satisfying click tells you you've hit the mark when holstering, and it's easy to quickly and naturally draw and re-holster.
The holster also doubles as a "kickstand" and while Otterbox's product description did mention this, a few words do not do this feature justice. You turn the belt clip into a kickstand by firmly squeezing the hinge to it's maximum open-ness, where it then locks in the open position. The stand, if oriented across the short dimension of the phone, serves you well as a standard "media viewing" stand, with the case standing mostly vertical.
But I prefer to rotate the clip in line with the long dimension of the phone, where it will sit perfectly stable in a more shallow incline position. Oriented in this way, it works beautifully as a businesslike desk-phone.
Drawbacks are few. 1) I've noticed that it's harder to hear my ringer, but simply turning the volume up a few notches did the trick. 2) It can occasionally be tricky to touch the home buttons at the bottom of the screen because the case crowds them just a little, but I have large hands. Could just be me.
Pros: High quality, Durable

Great protection, as good as it gets. However once you've snapped the defender over your phone almost impossible to get it off. Such as when you get a little moisture under the case between the clear cover and your screen. I almost chunked my new phone in frustration trying to remove the defender case, but finally gave up and it is me off typing about it now....happened 3 weeks ago...still unable to remove defender to clean screen. Tried table knife, screw driver, sharp knife etc. still have not removed it. me off...better than being on I guess!
Pros: Durable
Cons: cant get phone out

Strong but difficult

I really like the Defender series Otterbox case for my Motorola Droid Maxx. All of the buttons are easily accessible and the screen protector is very durable. The belt clip holds the case nice and snug. The only issue I had was installing the phone into the case. The instructions are printed extremely small and could have been made clearer.

I have a two year old Motorola Razzr Maxx HD and thanks to my otter box when I take it out of the case it still looks brand new. I have dropped this phone from the top of my stairs at home and it bounced clear to the bottom and was completely unharmed. This case is amazing.

Pro side .. First time buying an Otter cell phone cover and will not be the last in the future. It looks stylish and has a great feel and grip, hopefully I'll never need to test its ability to protect my phone with a fall .. on the CON side .. it is a little pricey and getting the parts apart is somewhat difficult because there aren't any instructions (pictures)!! .. I had to go to youtube to see how to do it... but overall you get what you pay for.

I had purchased an otter box last year. It started to fall apart recently lots of cracks, chips, and the exterior had loosened. Why then did I purchase another one? When I took my phone out of the otter box it was still brand new!!!! I'm a father of three and I work 2 jobs, my life is a great test of durability. The otter box did the job. It protected my phone for the whole year, so I didn't need insurance. I'll look forward to buying one next year.

LOVE it and Worth every penny

I have had my phone for almost 3 yrs now and since I've had it, I've had it in the Otterbox Defender, I have dropped my phone several times and in a few occasions its landed on concrete and because of my case my phone has resulted in ZERO damage! the price is definitely worth it!
