Of the 4 Otterbox cases I've owned, the one thing I have to scream from the rooftops is that dropping the phone has never been an issue. The phone has never broken, scratched or even scuffed from being dropped while it's been in my Otterbox.
That said, it's obvious that the product designers don't always use their product out in the wild. First of all, on all 4 of my cases, the kickstand has always broken within months.
This is because the little tab the holds the kickstand in place is made of inflexible plastic, yet the case is designed such that engaging the kickstand feature causes you to have to force this inflexible piece of plastic to move. With enough engage/disengages cycles, you can imagine what happens. The piece of plastic breaks off and the kickstand function is useless. The Otterbox warranty is great and fairly simple to use - but only during the first 12 months of purchase. And because the problem is a design flaw - not a one-off manufacturing defect, your replacement case is going to experience the same exact problem long after the warranty runs out.
The second major issue I've had - and I must say, this is only with the latest generation of case that I own. The holster (the part that you clip onto your belt) doesn't seem to grip the phone well enough, because my phone is constantly falling off my belt when I brush by someone or sit down in the car and the phone is tapped by the seat.
Good thing the case protects the phone so well, but there is absolutely no need for this to happen. Again - another case of flawed design.
I really like Otterbox, but they need to test these products in the wild or employ a cadre of real-world customers to provide feedback to improve cases.
Pros: Durable, simple to use warranty, helpful support
Cons: poor product design, lack of field testing, not soliciting customer feedback to improve on cas
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have a Droid Maxx phone protected by the Otterbox defender. Success story here. I left my phone o nthe rood of my vehicle traveled down the freeway at least 80mph when I heard something bounce off my car. I stopped went back to the location and phone my phone had been run over and my phone still works. The screen unfortunately cracked, but the Otterbox is still useable, but she does show some tire tracks in the rubber and some scrapes from the concrete.
I love Otter Box covers and have used them for years. Have had no issues until this new case for my Droid Maxx. I had it warrantied because the clear plastic screen protector bows outward away from the screen. The new one did the same thing. You have to push the screen protector down to make contact with the screen for any function. Its tighter towards the bottom and is a lot looser in the middle making drag features harder to use and standard text messaging is more difficult. I actually popped the screen protector out of the old one and used a standard Verizon screen protector. It was very annoying.
Otter, When I Phoned regarding my brand new case that I bought for my brand new phone I Called to speak with the technical design team, you see the case design needs a correction. On the Screen protector the opening for the Camera is on the left side while the Camera is on the Right side. This covers the camera lens and distorts the picture. I completed the online warranty form and described this with photos and arrows to make it as clear as I could. I was sent a new case which I have still in the box. Same thing. Please send me round trip tckts and Ill come show you in person. I <3 OTTER John
Pros: High quality, Durable, does not smell llike fish
Tough case, perfect fit, comes with screen protector. Rubber, non-skid, texture keeps phone on dash of my car or anywhere else I place it. My only complaint is its belt clip, I've broken two of them in two years. Otterbox did replace them both immediately, but they still did break, so I have to mention it. The part that holds the phone did not break, the clip securing the holster to my belt failed. Broke at the same spot both times.
the only thing that i don't like is the clip that attaches to your belt should be reinforced somehow, possibly with stronger plastic. mine caught on the door jam of my vehicle when i was getting into it and the clip broke from the main case. other than that minor problem, i am extremely pleased with the looks and durability of the case!
