I just bought my MG3520 white and I am impressed. The ease of use is very convenient. The print quality is outstanding in both black & color modes. For the price this is an excellent Home/office printer/copier/scanner

Incompatible with Airport Express

Hooking up the Canon Pixma 3550 to my iMac using a USB cable went smoothly. But the reason I bought the printer was to print using wi-fi. This feature does not, however, work as advertised.
Connecting the printer to my Airport Extreme Basestation is, as far as I can tell, impossible. I've tried all methods offered by Canon's installation software and none of them work.
Trying to connect using WPS isn't possible because there is no button on the access point (my wi-fi base station I assume) which I'm asked to push after having been instructed to enter a byzantine combination of buttons on the printer itself.
The PIN code method becomes a dead end when I'm asked to enter a PIN code into the computer's "setup screen". I have no idea what a "Set up screen" is.
I'm appaled at the poor quality of Canon's installation software and would advise anyone wanting to print wirelessly to choose another product.
Pros: Compact Design, fast print speed
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I hate this printer!!

I have never had such strong (negative) feelings for a printer. When my computer stops saying that it isn't connected to the printer...duh, its wireless....then it tells me that there is no paper. It is FULL of paper!! I turn it on, off, on, over and over and sometimes it catches, most of the time not. I have moved it, I have downloaded new drivers.... I am ready to throw it across the room! I give up!!!
Cons: Difficult to use, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Confusing but OK

Just as other reviews have stated, this is not as straight-forward as plugging into your computer and printing... at least if you have a Mac. I bought a USB cord, but in the end I didn't need it because I just hooked it up to my iPad using the wireless connection. That set up is a bit confusing, but now that it is all connected, I have to say I love being able to print from my iPad or iPhone at any time from any place! The trick is getting the the app (Pixma Software Solutions). Then, follow the not-so-easy-to-follow directions on the app itself. So, this product is ideal for someone who wants to be able to print from a tablet or smart phone. Also you must have a little bit if savvy when it comes to technology.
Pros: print from anywhere, wireless, scan and copy
Cons: confusing set up, unclear directions, not mac friendly
I would recommend this to a friend!

Frustrating

The scanner simply doesn't work on it's own. If you attempt to scan something via the Canon Quick Menu, you will get this error message "Canon IJ Scan Utility. A scanner driver supporting this software is not installed. Install it and try again. Code:9,230,0" You will need to use third party software with scanning capabilities if you want the scanner to actually work I use PaperPort. This printer is very slow to respond to a print job. After two months of ownership, it squeaks before it prints like a shivering cold mouse! Lol It's ridiculous. Setting up the wireless with this was impossible. It simply could not be done without actually hard wire connecting it with a USB cable to the other computer. Very, VERY stupid! Especially in this day and age were wireless technology is so common place. This printer teleports you back into the 2000's with it's archaic approach to wireless. Very cryptic and tedious and well, non-functioning. Ugh! No more Canon printers for me.

Great Price -- Works as advertised

Saw this printer being offered at a very attractive price but of course I wanted to check out the reviews. Much to my surprise, people either loved the MG3520 or trashed it. That made no sense to me and given the attractive price and my positive experience with other Canon products over the last 10-11 years, I decided to “take a chance” so to speak.
The complaints that I saw consistently were: • Wireless doesn’t work • Scanner doesn’t work • No documentation • Paper jams
I’m happy to report that I didn’t encounter any of these issues. I did have some trouble with WPS but that was a result of my network configuration, i.e. choosing not to broadcast my SSID. There are several ways around this:
a. Broadcast the SSID b. Use the WPS pin that is “provided” by the MG3520 c. Temporarily use a USB cable to ensure that the printer is found; it can be removed after installation
As the documentation and installation dialogue were clear (to me anyway), I’m up and running with no issues. Wireless and scanner functionality works as advertised. WRT a lack of documentation – that’s not true. No paper jams either (need to follow very clear instructions for loading the paper and be careful not to exceed capacity).
Check the Cannon site, there are all kinds of manuals and videos WRT setup and installation. The latest drivers/software are also available for download, newer than what’s on the installation CD that came with my printer by 2+ years. Uncomfortable with technical documentation etc.? Then as other reviewers suggested, contact their tech support staff.
I would recommend this to a friend!
