Love the system

I purchased this on Oct 27, 2015. Waited to review until I actually used the system to see how it worked.
The most time consuming part of installing the cameras was to dig trenches and put the wire inside piping. Once all the prep work was done, the rest of the system was super easy to hook up, actually pretty user friendly. The cameras have a nice wide view, very clear, very sturdy heavy duty, but when pitch black outside, really can't see all that much. If you have an outside light on, then the visual is pretty good. I put my cameras on motion, then I receive email updates every 10 minutes. I would rather have it notify me only when the motion is set off and not at 10 minute intervals. I had a few questions while I was trying to set up my email and the customer service is excellent and very helpful. I am so glad that I purchased this system, love it!!

So far disappointed. 2 of 4 cameras are defective (no color from cameras) and I had to pay to ship them back in order to get replacements.

System OK

I received my Defender 21159 four camera system on 8/8/14. I tested the system and found one camera did not work. I immediately contacted CWD, the distrtbutetor for Defender. I was told that the quickest way to get a replacement was to buy one and send the defective one back for a refund. That took more than a month, very poor customer service.

Picture is great but I can not view online

After receiving cameras we tested them all out to make sure they worked and then installed them all very easily. It was very nice to have extra long cables so there was no extra expense. The picture is great but we can not view it online. I had a local professional come to set up the online viewing but he worked on it all day but was unable to get it to work. The 1Step application does not work and he even tried other online viewing applications but none would work with the DVR. Unhappy with the branding and compatibility of the DVR.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dead DVR?

I bought the unit at Walmart (DEFENDER Sentinel Pro Widescreen 8CH Security DVR with 2TB Storage and 8 Surveillance 800TVL Cameras with 150ft Night Vision) and picked it up October 10. I hooked up all 8 cameras to the DVR and tested the system - all was good, including the remote access. I then unplugged everything and shut the system down, then unplugged the DVR. I then proceeded laying the cables in the attic. I had to wait until extension cables arrived to complete the installation. After almost 4 weeks (with other projects interfering with the installation) I hooked up all cables and plugged in the DVR but no lights came on. This was on a Friday night which means I had no one to talk to from Defender.
I will update (provided the website lets me) as soon as the situation is resolved. But so far, all I see is the infrared lights glowing on the cameras.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Vandals cannot hide

My daughters car was vandalized while parked next to the garage recently. The helpless feeling of not knowing who did it was overwhelming. So, after much research I decided on this system as it seemed to offer the best viewing and recording for the money. Setup and navigation were pretty straight forward. Pretty much a plug and play system. The only exception being the work needed to conceal the cables under vinyl siding and through the walls into the house.
I like the fact that that the cameras not only see well, but are a little larger and noticeable on the house. I feel this is a nice deterrent feature.
I let the system run all 4 cameras 24/7 at the highest resolution setting and the record time before it starts to overwrite is about 40 or so days.
When I get up in the morning and water the tomato plants out back and the flowers out front, I check for any signs of theft or property damage. If I find any I look at the recording to see how it happened. So far nothing has happened.
If the system continues to operate this well for a long time I will be very satisfied. Just installing it seems to have already stopped interlopers from coming onto my property.
The only thing I am not excited about is that the recording play back is slightly less clear than the live viewing mode. But, when your compressing that much image data you're going to loose a little clarity. Still a good system for the money.
I would recommend this to a friend!

bought a second system for home, after getting them for work. awesome- caught lots of things you might otherwise miss!!!! Know what is happening at home or office, even if you are out!!!

VANDALS CANNOT HIDE IN EVEN MORE CORNERS

This is an updated review as I just upgraded from a 4 channel system (model 21158), to an 8 channel system (model 21160) to cover the blind spots in my back yard. After being in service for less than a week, we've already caught another pair of vandals running through my back yard and then moving between the houses and destroying my neighbors lawn furniture.
