We have been looking to buy this range for over a year. Since our old range decided to quit on us we replaced it with the Cafe Dual Fuel range. Have used it a few times already and it does such a nice job. It has all the features we wanted plus the look is that of a much more expensive range. Cannot wait to continue cooking with our new GE product.
I've only had the range 3 weeks ( and was away for 2 of that) but so far, it has performed very well. Cook top burners operate very well - great variety of heat levels (BTUs) so I can easily simmer on the low or power boil on the high. Oven seems to bake well - I have only used it a couple of times so far, but heats up fast and is accurate temperature.
Great range and very attractive. Cooks very well. Love the burner sizes and layout of the burners. A 12" burner at the front was a must for me as well as a bottom oven and this has it. I like the knobs on the front instead of the back of the oven. Creates a lot less cleanup.
First off, we purchased this appliance because it was part of a suite which matched the refrigerator we picked. we don't do a lot of baking and our old gas ranges had a lot of things we didn't like and with this modle we paid the same for a duel fuel as an all gas range. On our other gas ranges were disappointed that the burner control has no affect on the flame except fot a very small amount of the total turn of the knob ( in other words, you have a large flame at lighting point, then as you turn the knob to a lower setting nothing happens until you get close to the low setting and it takes very little movement to make a big change on the flame). I really hate to say it but this range is NOT much better. Right front burner is better than the rest though.
My major complaint is: I had asked for the install instruction for this model. the copy the dealer gave me was exactly the same as the one available online which had my model number and only my model number on it. It gave two areas allowed for hookups. one for the allowed gas line entry area and one for the electric outlet and the part number for the outlet to match the plug that comes with the range. my gas line was in the area marked out for the elect. so it was relocated to the area setup for the gas (extra work was required because old piping below the floor will be in the way of new elect.). Elect. outlet was installed exactly as pictured in instructions. You can't even plug the range in because the cord on the oven would need to be bent at a sharp 90* just to avoid the cabinate to the right of the stove and then there would be no way to slide the range all the way back to the wall. Not only do I have to relocate the elect. outlet the new location would not have affected a lot of the gas plumbing I relocated. Now onto the Gas outlet. Even though I am WELL within the area the recommended. it could NOT be in a worse spot. from where the line hooks to the regulater the the outlet fitting it is only a few inches below, so my gas line gose up the wall makes a 360 and comes back down which makes contact if the range is pushed back to where it belongs, SO it will have to be relocated again. this gets me ticked off just righting this review, so much I think about going back and changing to one star but have a hard time doing that because one or two dufisses aren't doing their job.
I read so bad reviews about the oven being turned off while reaching above the range and I will say this, the oven control panel is sensitive. I would think this is a good thing and if you are touching it accidentally, maybe you should think about how your cooking area is set up. I would think rubbing up against any controls on appliance, tool or equipment is a bad thing.
I know there is a lot bad said here but I am generally happy with my purchase. this range was a lot higher price than I wanted to spend but, it was all that matched the suite I bought.
We bought the entire Cafe line for our kitchen. These are beautiful appliances. I read other reviews about the range and was a bit worried, but there are always bad reviews that are strange for some reason. A couple things from the bad reviews I read that I wanted to clear up in my review: 1. The boiling. We have 3 different types of pots/pans - Kirkland clad SS, a cheaper non-clad, copper bottom SS, and ceramic coated pans. We have had zero issues with them reaching temp, boiling water etc. It seems like it may be a little slower to boil, but nothing we would ever think to complain about. 2. I read some review about the oven controls in front being too sensitive or easy to hit and turn off the oven. If that is the case, that person must have a large mid-section, because this is not a problem for my wife and I who are average size.
We really love the baking drawer feature. We wanted a double oven, but the fact that the small oven was on top and larger oven on the bottom really kept us from doing this. The baking drawer is the perfect way to get that second oven in the configuration we wanted (main oven on top).
The only minor complaint I have is the baking drawer is a little off centered. We wouldn't have noticed it but the refrigerator bottom freezer drawer was the same (it was a bigger issue so we are replacing it).
I LOVE this oven. Dual fuel was the way to go. I love gas cooking, electric oven (convection) is the best baking, and an additional baking drawer. It is beautiful and functions well. There is no preheat of the oven, but not really a problem for me. We did a self clean and oiled the wire shelves...and it is good as new. Metal knobs are nice for stove top. Tricky to get all the cords in right position to scoot it back flush to wall. Everyone who sees it is impressed.
We replaced a 20 year GE range (still working by the way) with this wonderful new range and couldn't be more impressed. The control panel IS a bit too sensitive and it beeps when reaching for something in the microwave above, but it resets/turns itself off if you ignore. The brightly lit oven with its easy gliding racks is such a dream to use. Love the addtional baking (not just warming) drawer also.
