So glad I chose this oven

I bought this oven 9 years ago, and it has consistently met all my needs. I had considered higher priced gas ovens, but I can’t imagine liking any oven more than this one. The dual fuel is exactly what I wanted. The gas cooktop is easy to clean, much more so than previous gas stoves. The self cleaning oven works well. The electric oven has been always dependable, on both the regular and convection modes. I would highly recommend this oven. It is a big pleasure to cook with it.

A dangerous stove design

We have had several close calls with this gas stove. It has no thermocouple to safely shut off the gas if the flame goes out on a burner, as has happened with us. One time, someone accidentally turned a gas control knob past the igniter/piezo sparking initiation point, (which only occurs in the first 1/8 of a turn) so the gas was on, but not ignited. It was not noticed until much later that night when propane gas was smelled in the bedroom! Making matters much worse, to turn the gas off, requires moving the control knob back through that 1/8 inch turn creating the spark. This ignited the volume of gas in the area of the stove, causing an explosion, but thankfully there was no injury or damage. However, it could have been much much more serious.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

True Love

I have an unhealthy affection for this appliance. Short story: it is everything I hoped for. Fabulous hot gas burners, faithful electric oven. Of course, no one is perfect. My beloved's one flaw is a somewhat significant level of uneven baking. We work with each other though, and so far have created copious amounts of delicious food for the last six years and counting. I highly recommend.

Our GE CS980S is beautiful stainless, matching our GE Profile series fridge and dish washer. This range does everything we wanted, heats up fast, consistent temps, simple to keep clean, and it looks great. We’re big fans of GE appliances.

Good, but front burner BTU issues

I saw several reports similar to below.
"have had this range for almost 9 years and many family meals- have needed to replace the high btu burner assembly twice due to warping (and need to replace yet again); the igniter on that burner has failed and now need to light it manually; center burner is rarely used due to functionality; oven features are nice, warming drawer is a plus... very disappointed that at this price point there have been consistent failures. currently shopping for another range and it won't be a GE"

We experienced the same issue and now we have to wait until JUNE until the new assembly arrives. That means working with a partial working stove for 2+ months. Not good.
I list no to recommend to a friend, but actually it is a yes, but with reservations. The burner warping seems like a manufacturing issue. Then to take 2+ months to resolve it...not great.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

“Excellent-ish”

We’ve owned this GE dual-fuel range for three years and it’s an excellent cooking appliance. The top gas burners are powerful yet finely adjustable down to a very low simmer. We covered the 5th middle (oblong) burner with the griddle plate, which gives us flexibility. Build quality is very solid as expected for a high end range at this price. Unfortunately, we did have recurring failures with the oven temperature probe. We don’t usually roast meat in the oven except for holiday meals (rib roast, turkey, tenderloin, etc.), so when our probe failed on two separate holiday occasions it could’ve ruined the expensive meat. After each occasion the probe was repaired under warranty. The first repair didn’t resolve the problem but we didn’t realize it wasn’t working until the next big holiday roast when the probe failed again. The second repair fixed the issue and the probe is working well. In fact, roasting with the oven probe is virtually foolproof. I think this range otherwise would deserve 5 stars, except the probe problem compels me to deduct a star. I would definitely recommend this GE range and I’d buy it again. Pro tip: Invest in the extended warranty.
