Fantastic phone!

I have had no complaints after six weeks with my new 1520. The Windows Phone system is smooth as silk and fast. The camera is unbelievable , especially in low light and taking videos. My friends with iPhones are always commenting on how good my photos are. My only complaint: While all the major apps are available for Windows Phone now, like Instagram, etc. some of the more specialized apps are only available in iOS or Android, things like the app for my bank or the Animal Legal Defense Fund's animal abuse reporting CrimeTips app. But they seem to be coming on line. My bank says coming soon.

Amazingly Lovely

Having had an android for years and living with a house hold of iPhone die-hearts i know the taste of both worlds and the existence of Windows is a welcoming option.
I left my previous phone company to make the "switch" and first had a Nokia Lumia 920 which of course was AMAZING. everyone loved my photo quality and the interface was so different than the usual. So when the Lumia 1520 was announced i HAD to get my hands on the piece. Compared to the 920 it is just everything placed on BLAST. I love everything about it. It's grotesque size is such an appeal, it fits perfectly in my hands. The camera wheew it's not the 1020 but it sure is something on its own. I love taking trips so my 1520 is just the device everyone steals photos from because nothing else comes close.
The reason i decided the 1520 over the 1020 was simply because i am a creature of social habits. I love to surf the web, be on my social apps, and take a picture here and there.., so i made the hard decision on going with a phablet. I have not regretted a single thing. I love the ability to socialize with a monster box in my hand, just be aware attention will on you.
..... I Love my Nokia its just everything i've ever wanted, needed and dreamt of.

I had to move from Corr to AT&T when AT&T bought them out. It was the perfect chance to get this phone! So far, I love it! Easy to set up. I figured out how to add ringtones pretty easily. I love the big 6" screen. I guess that is the old person in me starting to come out. My mom got the smaller 900series phone and I think she's going to like it, too!

I do not own this phone, but I do wish to. I am currently with Verizon... and so disappointed that it is not available at Verizon. I gave the ratings based on what I thought of the device. I NEED THIS PHONE!!! Big fan of windows and Nokia. My update is coming up in a few months and I really want to get this device with a two year contract... without switching carriers.

Some wishes

with all positives, there are few points to improve:
1. Hardware: the speaker quality is definitely step down, compare to model 920.
2. Can't turn off haptic feedback(vibration) for touch keys.... annoyance
3. Camera application(s) interface is cumbersome
4. OS: inability to turn on bitlocker (encryption) unless using exchange policy, which is not option for non-corporate user.
4. Build in Office does not support Microsoft Office password protected documents.
Pros: Personal

Good, could have been better

Pro:
1. Offline Maps and Navigation.
2. Large Screen.
3. Very good battery life.
4. Clear screen
Con:
1. Cannot change text size to be smaller than a particular size. So many times you see same quantity of data as on other phones but bigger size. Would be nice to allow reducing size to accommodate more content on screen.
2. On maps, you have option to view ATM or gas stations, etc but cannot navigate to it by trying to select it from map. You have to go to search.
3. The sound quality is not great. Sort of sounds like the other person is speaking by keeping phone mic very close to mouth.
4. Cannot edit a letter from a word. E.g: I mistakenly type in hotmsil instead of hotmail, now I need to retype the whole word instead of just changing s to a. Selecting particular character or repositioning cursor is very difficult. With larger screen I expected this kind of editing to be easy.
5. No easy way to hide keyboard.
6. Tried to send feedback to Nokia multiple times from phone but fails everytime. Same for Nokia maps. Seems you cannot send feedback though they have the option. Is this deliberate?
7. Voicemail needs me to be disconnected from WiFi. That is foolish.
8. Disk space is very poor, only 16GB.

Love the size

I have mixed feelings about this device. There are things I love about it but I just can't say it love it yet.
Coming from an L920 there are things that have been addressed so that's great, but I'm still on the fence.
I love the size of this phone, my hands got use to it in about a day or so. The OS of course is what it is so no surprise or wow there.
I can't blame anyone besides myself for not realizing the phone only had 16gb internal memory, this seems like s step down from my L920 since I was not able to personalize my L1520 in the same way I did my 920, I ran out of storage trying to do just that, and since as far as I know apps cannot be installed on an SDcard there is no solution besides going back to the 920 or personalize the 1520 as best I can and still carry around the 920.
I'm not a big photographer by any means but I did find I took a few more pics than usual with my 920 vs any other phone I've owned. Apparently the camera on the 1520 is better but I have yet to find out waiting for my SDcard to arrive. I'm not truly fussed about the camera anyway I'm sure its good or even great or amazing.
I do wish things were addressed like:
Separate volume controls, I'm sick to death of constantly having to remember to adjust the ringer/call/audio volume. Its unreal the number of calls I miss from not hearing the phone ring (believe it or not my phone is usually on a table or desk somewhere and not physically attached to me 24/7 to feel it vibrate) a feature that was common in not-so-smartphones.
Ringing profiles, oh how do I miss my 5800
Ability to send a long text as mms instead of the hoops I have to jump through. 95% of the time when someone sends me a long text I receive it broken up and almost never in the correct order. In order to send a long text as mms I have to type, copy, paste in an email to my phone#@mms.att.net then forward it to the recipient. Ok so the obvious reply is that texts are meant to be short hence being called sms but who is to dictate that I cannot choose to send an all text mms, something that is more than possible and again readily available on not-so-smartphones.
Lack of available accessories is rather annoying, I would love to have an accompanying wireless charging shell for my 1520 otherwise all the charging stations I bought for my 920 become obsolete. I can look at the picture of the case/cover for the 1520 with the coming soon sign but that does me no good should I drop the phone before it becomes available. Not to mention the unnecessary expense to me probably having to buy a temporary case I really do not want while I wait for the one I want from Nokia to be released, same for the bh-121
I would still recommend this device as a great device, it does have much appeal just not where I was hoping it would be. I am aware that the lack of some features and functionality are due to software limitations or whatever the case but that is unfortunately a part of the equation.

Nokia + Windowsphone = Perfection
on December 20, 2013

Having used iPhone for 3 years then Android for 3, I have to say MS has by far the best Phone OS going. It is so smooth and responsive. It is so intuitive and Easy, but the magical thing is, unlike Apple they didn't have to limit features to keep it simple, they have given you all the features, but made them simple to use.
I used to chuckle at their commercials saying how you could do things "quicker" on a WindowsPhone, but I have to say to my surprise it is notably quicker to do just about everything. If you are new to Windows phone you may need 1 - 3 days to stop trying to use it like an iPhone or an Android. But once you "turn the corner" and you "get" the Windowsphone style, everything just suddenly makes complete sense.
Hardware - superb, seems a little big at first, but now after a few days, the others just seem too small. Screen is gorgeous and build is slim, sleek and smooth...
Enjoy!
