Excellent

My first windows phone was a HTC Surround, after that phone I never went back to windows. I used only android. yea it was great but, with my LG G3 I had to download an app to work with another app and so on. And sometimes I think that I'm missing an app from my homescreen but I seriously don't need anymore apps. All in one. The Screen on this phone is huge. batter life is amazing right now I've gone 8 hours of minimum use and I still have 94% battery life. When I pull this baby out people ask me if its an android, then once they see my start screen they just stare and say how cool it looks that things move around on their own without me having to open up the weather app. or facebook app. I would highly recommend this phone if youre looking for a top tier windows phone. the 950 I dont think cuts it.

I am NOT giving the windows Nokia L 1520 a 5/5 b/c I can not run Snapchat (beta was removed by owner). Windows should be diligent on knowing their audience and capitalizing on the up coming audience (young user who become forever user). Make Spatchat write you your code!!

Windows phone beast

For a very long time I thought I hated smartphones. I had gone from one to another in the android ecosystem and found the experience overall lackluster and didn't see why people loved phones and apps and mobile everything so much. But then it all clicked with me when I got this phone, it was my eureka moment.
This 1520 was the first proper Flagship phone I've ever had. It was big in every sense of the word. Big battery, big processor, big screen, big camera, big everything. And that made it stand out, on the spec sheet when I was doing research, and at work when I showed it off for the first time. People just didn't realize something so striking and big and 'out there' had been on the market.
It's not just that things on it are big, they're good... really good, and in ways you don't think of when looking at a webpage. For instance, this didn't have an amoled screen or an OLED or super amoled. The screen on this device is an IPS panel, what they use in really nice PC monitors. That doesn't translate to a spec sheet very well but bear with me. IPS displays have a number of advantages, most notably is view-ability, amoled looks good in best buy or store lighting, but IPS looks good everywhere and from all angles, even oblique viewing is undistorted. Or the speaker, which is loud enough to really fill a room with sound. Or the 4 microphones, on each corner that means calls on an awkwardly large phone are never garbled because you can't figure out how to hold it. Everything about this device is beastly and huge, and that gives it personality, big and bombastic personality that you don't easily forget.
It's not all sunshine and gumdrops however. The upgrade to Windows Phone 10 was... troubled, for this device. It was never officially supported and even today needs to be using an 'insider' app to upgrade. And for good reason. When I upgraded it broke the Cortana app. Turns out there was a problem with the language pack that required a language pack reinstall to allow me to train Cortana for 'Hey Cortana' to work. Other problems persist as well; double tap to wake, will eventually cause the device to hang on log in and get stuck at a 'resuming' screen. Some other jump links will cause this as well, and can't be avoided by disabling the double tap feature.
Overall though, I enjoyed my 1520. So much so that I don't actually know when I'll really replace it. It's such a good example of good design, careful thought and bold advancement Microsoft or Nokia still haven't really outdone it. Hopefully a worthy successor will come along soon.

For me as an IT professional no other phone can come close. I laugh as I watch other people having to charge their phone constantly and rely on apps but hey they are cool and in the apple basket. Apps who needs apps when you have full blown Internet Explorer! Office too! Will miss this phone when I get my 950XL

Great phone; lack of support/upgrades from Microsoft & others

At first I loved just about everything about this phone; however, in recent month's I have become very frustrated & disappointed in support/upgrades from Microsoft, as well as others. Windows 10 phones and upgrades for others have been released, however, nothing for the 1520?! Lastly, I'm the lack of support/apps from other companies is very disappointing. I am constantly running into situations where a company is offering IOS and Android apps/support for their products, but nothing for Window's phones. I have a Surface Pro, a couple of laptops and desktops all running Window's 10 and I am very happy with them. That being said, as a result of my frustration with the lack of support for Window's phones, I have just 'upgraded' back to an Android phone ....
