Great toothbrush but doesn't last!

The first one stopped working after about 9 months. The brush was fully charged but would not turn on. I took it back to Bed, Bath & Beyond and exchanged it for a new one. Within a couple of months, the ultraviolet cleaner stopped working. The toothbrush still works, but when you push the button for the cleaner, nothing happens. I haven't exchanged it yet because I'm debating whether or not to try another brand. I might be able to tolerate one defective appliance, but TWO? I'm not happy. This was a very expensive toothbrush and this should not have happened twice!
Pros: good toothbrush when it works.
Cons: unreliable product

Should last longer

I purchased this model in Sept. 2009 and now it is giving me problems. It will not stay on, and one of the modes is not displaying. I owned an older model that lasted 10 years. I would even pay for a repair, but am disappointed that I cannot. I will probably buy another one, but I feel it should have lasted longer.

Unless you can afford to spend almost $200 every 2 years for a toothbrush, this is not the product for you. This product was recommended by my dentist and sold to me in their office. It worked well for two years and I got good dental exams after using it. However, it just died. Although it shows a full charge, it won't come on. If it is designed to last two years, I think the customer should be so advised before making the investment. Of course, my warranty is up so I will have to look for another product to take care of my teeth and gums.

I hope this thing will last a long time, after the first 3 months though I believe it paid for itself. My first basic model lasted 7 years, brush heads replaced every 6 months of course. Even if it didn't last, I would buy a new one every year, but I anticipate at this rate I will have this one for many years to come! Best investment in my home, and I have all the new shiny gadgets. I bought 4 of these for christmas presents last year. Best response i've ever gotten from giving a gift! Every house-hold needs one. This world would be a better place if these were the standard in brushing! Everyone at my dentist's office think my teeth are fake they look so good, until they see for themselves when I have cleanings done. They have even accused me of moon-lighting at other dental offices for cleanings because my teeth seriously never need any work. Thanks Philips, for my incredible, healthy, beautiful smile!
Pros: the brush alone whitens teeth, uses less toothpast compared to manual brush, incredible deep clean everytime, strengthens gums
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love this toothbrush b/c it cleans my teeth awesome. However, I had to order a replace thru warranty after less than one year and now I'm having to order another replacement thru warranty less than 2 years.
Pros: cleans awesome

This is the second one we have had in a 2.5 year period and this newest one is only a few months old. I can tell by the way that it sounds that it is louder but the head does not vibrate like it was. I do not feel like my teeth are getting as clean as they did when the product was brand new. I change the head as recommended but this is not helping the problem. I feel that for the cost of the product, I should get a longer period of satisfaction out of it.

Cleans great, but not durable

I have been using Sonicare toothbrushes for approximately 14 years. The first toothbrush lasted approximately 11 years and was a similar design to what is now called the "Essence". My original Sonicare seemed to finally succumb to a dead battery.
I have now gone through a few of the newer design Sonicares. The first FlexCare+ lasted about a year, but it seemed like the shaft came apart internally and failed to brush. I replaced it with another of the newer design, a plain FlexCare, which lasted about a year and a half before it failed. It apparently died due to a bad battery. I replaced that one with a FlexCare+.
All Sonicare toothbrushes clean really well. The newer design doesn't build up junk within the head like the older model. That means there is a lot less maintenance. However, it is apparent that the new design doesn't hold up well over time.
Pros: cleans great, less maintenance than older design
Cons: battery may fail after a few years, likely to break after a few years, price, brush heads are expensive
