Great Microwave

My previous 2 microwaves broke about 16-20 months. The GE is better built, so much easier to install It just works Great.

Had it for about 7 months. No issues and easy to use. First MW I've seen with a powder coated finish (like an oven). Fan works great but bulb burned out in 4 months and changed out with 50 watt vs 30 watt. Work surface is much brighter. Door seem a bit flimsy thin plastic but no issues so far. I would buy again without hesitation.

We purchased this over another highly rated brand and I'm so glad we did. It's very roomy inside and quiet when you use it. The features (family snacks/warming ice cream/melt butter) are those which make life alot easier when trying to do 3 things at once.

Great features and good value

I have only had the microwave one week, but so far am impressed. This is my first GE appliance, as I have always had Kitchen-aid, but was not impressed with their microwaves. The only downside is the door is a bit loud/tight when closing, but that may improve over time with use and the turntable is a little wobbly, but that may be due to it's larger size.stainless steel finish.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I chose this as GE no longer makes a 36'' over the range model.. For this reason, it would have been far better to have a push-button opening, as it seems you pull the handle downwards every time it's opened.. Dark internal finish doesn't allow you to see how cooking's going.. A more detailed/clear manual would have been a great plus..

nice appearance

This product is a perfect fit and match,color-wise, to our other appliances. It has nice features, but I had to educate myself in defrosting and melting butter, etc. I like the fact that it has a large(14") turntable, even though it is slightly smaller in overall dimension than my previous one.

Near perfect swap from previous GE microwave

This microwave replaced a previous GE pvm8170 model that only lasted 4.5 years. Was not happy, did a lot of research, but came back to GE in the end for several reasons: identical size as previous and read another reviewer did not have to change mounting late; smaller size than many other monsters; matched our GE Profile range the best; happy with the GE features. The install went perfectly. Indeed, did not have to reinstall back mounting plate as the new is identical to the old. Venting on top is identical so no new cutting into the cabinet. However the top mounting screws are positioned differently so had to drill new 1/2 inch diameter holes. My wife and I were very careful in lifting and positioning this heavy mw so as to not bend the front door. We're both in our early 50's and were able to do this. Any older or less strong, would recommend having someone else do the install. So glad it went so well with the identical sized unit. Did not have to trim the tile backsplash which would have been a major undertaking. This is the main reason we stuck with GE. The outside appearance of the new mw is not quite as impressive as the old GE Profile mw but at least this new one doesn't have that dumb automatically opening vent at the top of the front face, which became unaligned and eventually broke. This new mw should be more durable in that matter. The bottom is improved: the lights are near the front for better illumination of the cooktop; and the vent is now split into two with smaller vents over each side of the unit which better matches the location of the cooking suface below. Features we like: four speed fan which is quieter than previous mw; timer, vent fan, and light buttons separated from the main display and at bottom; controls very similar to our previous GE so no learning curve; large interior space with 14-inch platter. Room for improvement: the door handle while nice does not match our other GE Profile appliances most notably the range; the dark grey color should be darker or black to match the range; and worst of all, the key pad is very hard to read in subdued lighting. One must have bright overhead lights on to read keypad. Our old mw had button pads with better contrast. Overall, a very nice product with reasonable price and features. Only time will tell if GE's quality control has improved with regard to magnetrons. This new warranty is only 1 year for everyting versus some other mfrs that have 5 and 10 year magnetron warranties. If not for that then would have given this mw 5 stars.
