Where’s the clock?

Ridiculous. Removal of clock display done to comply with another government reg. Why just this product and at this price point? Just absurd.

Response from geappliances.comBy Mike@GEA, GE Appliances, August 12, 2021
Hey there,
Thanks so much for reviewing this microwave. This unit does have a clock and you can read more information about setting the clock on page 26 of the manual.
The clock turns off after it has been idle for 30 seconds. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. All the best! Mike@GEA

Best Over-The-Range Oven... Period
on October 22, 2021

This is our second Advantium 120 OTR oven. The range of cooking options is exceptional. Microwave, convection bake, speed cook (like conventional oven use, but faster), broil, toast, proof, keep warm, and repeat last cooking selection.
My wife is a first-class cook and had always wanted a second 'standard' oven in the kitchen like her mother had. With limited space in our condo, this was not possible until Advantium came along. That gave us not only a second oven, but a microwave and convection oven as well.
The range of foods it will cook is impressive, and the built-in intelligence of the controls has improved over previous models. Some microwaves or ovens are so 'intelligent' that they outsmart the user and do things that you may not want to do. The automatic monitoring and control functions of the Advantium are well thought out, and performed behind-the-scenes, so you don't need to do anything to have the oven monitor the correct time and temperature, food moisture, and level of 'doneness' for cooking, etc. I was also impressed that the oven even senses the electrical power levels at your house and adjusts cooking times to compensate. That's cool! Automation can be wonderful for simpletons like myself, but if you are a more advanced cook and want to control all aspects of the cooking, you can do that too.
I said initially that this was our second Advantium. The original oven was purchased right after Advantium was brought to market, and had been in daily use for almost 20 years. It still worked beautifully after all that time and use. The only maintenance I had to perform (aside from cleaning) was replacement of the over-the-range bulb, once. The only reason we replaced it was the design of the original door handle was (I believe) faulty. It took a pretty hefty pull to release the door from the automatic safety mechanism, so after several years the handle (being plastic screwed into plastic) gave way at both top and bottom. The unit was out of warranty by then and I couldn't find anyone in my area to fix it. (I blame COVID for the lack of repair options.) Unfortunately, the screws stripped the anchors, so it wasn't an easy DIY repair either. I put a temporary metal handle at the bottom of the door, so we were able to continue using the unit for a couple more years until the plastic around the repair cracked too. I presume GE had enough complaints about the original handle design that they redesigned it. (Looking online for solutions... there was no dearth of repairmen helpfully describing how to fix it, assuming a new handle alone would resolve the issue. So this, obviously, was a design flaw and a common problem.)
In frustration I just bought a replacement. But, for obvious reasons, the replacement still had to be an Advantium 120! The new oven's handle looks more sturdy, and the lock-out doesn't require a Herculean effort to open the door now either.
All-in... the Advantium 120 is the best multi-purpose oven available. I didn't hesitate to buy it, and if you're looking for a quality, multi-purpose microwave oven, you shouldn't either.

The Advantium Difference
on November 19, 2021

This is our second Advantium and we continue to be thrilled at its abilities. This is so much more than a microwave oven. It can microwave, bake, toast, and speed cook. People need to know that this is the version of Advantium that requires a higher electricity source. It's worth the effort to install the wiring.

Advantium does SO much more than just a microwave

We had the GE Profile Advantium Over-the-Range Oven for over ten years. We chose the 240 Volt version. It finally quit on us in March 2022. We liked the original Advantium so much that we chose to replace it with a new one of the same type (GE Profile, stainless steel, 240 Volt). The Advantium costs more than twice the price of a regular microwave oven, but to us, it is worth the cost. The Advantium has heat lamps that can brown the food and cook/bake in a fraction of the time of a conventional oven, by using a combination of the microwave and the heat lamps. It takes a little practice, but after a short learning curve, you learn to adjust the heat lamp and microwave settings to get the food cooked just the way you like it. Baked potatoes can be baked with the Advantium in half the time, but still get the taste and look of potatoes baked in a conventional oven. You can bake or even reheat items using the heat lamps and it doesn't come out soggy, and it can be browned and crisp. The control panel is pre-programmed with settings for just about anything you'd ever want to cook, and you can also manually set it up to cook with any combination of the lamps and microwave that you wish. It even has a convection oven feature, and, if you're wondering, yes, you can use just the microwave without the heat lamps, if you like. It also has a countdown timer and vent fan and a surface light built in. We also like the look of the oven with our other GE Profile appliances. I have only one complaint - the clock display will not stay on all the time. It goes off 30 seconds after the oven is inactive. This clock was the one we always looked at on the former oven and we really miss it on the new one. But, GE is not responsible for this issue. It is a requirement by the DOE to save energy, and therefore, it cannot be overridden. REALLY??? They think that shutting off a small digital clock is going to save a lot of energy? Leave it to the government to require something so stupid and inconvenient. But....we do love the Advantium and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to save a lot of time and heat in the kitchen. Just realize that it will cost a lot more than a regular microwave. But, we believe the benefits outweigh the extra cost.

So sorry the problems the last guy described. Ours has been tremendous. A whole chicken in 27 minutes, brown and moist. We have lots to learn from this incredible oven. So far so good. We have had it about 2 months.

Awesome Appliance

As a former GE appliance dealer, I purchased a 240V soon after they first came out in the 90's. I have moved and now rent the house out and that Advantium is still going strong. The new house I purchased had a 120V advantium. I purchased a 240V one and replaced the 120V and gave it to children. Both are doing well. I recently had a former customer that I talked into purchasing a 240V Advantium about 15 years ago. I recently received an email. His wife now has Alheimerz and he was thanking me for talking them into the purchase. He says with the 24/7 care, the Advantium is a life saver.

What Doesn't It Do?

I also own a top-end brand name gas convection oven. I rarely use it. The Advantium cooks so many things so very well, and so very quickly. I think my next kitchen will have an Induction range and another one of these ovens. Well, OK, it won't hold a 25 pound turkey. I'll invite fewer guests. Go for it. You will not regret it.

Premium priced appliance hamstrung by cheap parts
on March 26, 2015

We purchased this appliance in December 2014 based upon the manufacturer's product description and a few of the on-line reviews. What a disappointment it has turned out to be. For the cost, one would expect an exhaust fan that does not sound like an old iron-wheeled wagon traveling along a gravel road. But what is most galling is the selector knob which scrolls the menu and actuates the start sequence. The knob has failed and we've already had to replace it. Twice. So...three knobs in four months. Cooking-wise, the microwave and convection features work okay but nothing really to differentiate or stand apart. Appearance of the appliance is fine. Conclusion is we paid a premium for a product with much-touted features that really was an average device with poorly designed daily-use parts. We would advise to look elsewhere.
