Very poor reliability

This microwave cooks very well, but it just randomly died a few years after buying it. Then, a year and a half after replacing it with the same microwave, the handle broke off, required a repair that was far more expensive than it should have been. We certainly wont be buying another one.

Prepares excellent fish and chicken

This is our second Advantium. First one purchased in 2000. Does a great job cooking fish and chicken without drying it out. The negative is the quality. First unit had several repair calls. Magnetron went out at 5 years and door switches went out three times. Hopefully the quality is a bit better this time around but just in case I obtained the extended warranty. The convenience of the speed cook is bit expensive but then life is short so why stand around waiting for a conventional oven to cook the food.
I would recommend this to a friend!

poor design, replaced 3 times in 3 years

We are now on our 4th unit in 3 years. Fortunately, all have been replaced under warranty. The problem is the amount of plastic used in areas of high use, such as the door handle. It just doesn't hold up to daily wear and tear. The only good thing is GE's customer service has been very responsive.

Poor parts design soured me on this product

This is my second Advantium oven, the first having lasted probably 17 years with no service ever needed.
This one, however, is a different story. Oven has very nice functionality. The handle has broken off at the bottom TWICE in less than 2 years.

No clock display

I hate that the clock display does not show. If I’d known this, I would not have purchased this model. And the microwave does not show time remaining when cooking/heating.

My first GE Advantium lasted more than 16 years before it needed to be replaced. This new one is great--lots of useful, easy-to-use features. I installed it myself over my range, and that was NOT fun. While I highly recommend this microwave, I encourage you to pay the installation fee. It's worth it. If you do choose to DIY, then take your time and follow the instructions carefully (a few parts are confusing/incomplete), and especially be EXACT with your measurements for the holes you drill in your cabinet. Don't rush when using the paper guide. I nearly damaged the microwave because of misaligned holes. And know that it's very heavy. I was also irritated about not being able to get at a top-access point for a filter after it was installed, so I'm just not using that. But...Once I finally got it installed, I've been VERY happy with it. I have the 240 version, which I recommend. (Know that it requires special wiring!) We use the convection oven and "speed cook" features often, and the "popcorn" feature works perfectly. Yes, it's expensive, and I almost opted for a cheap microwave, but I'm very glad I didn't. The Advantium is absolutely worth the money.
