Energy Star eliminated clock!

This is our 4th Advantium. Love the functionality of the oven. But to meet the "Energy Star" status, GE programed the clock to turn off after 30 seconds of the door opening. So now I leave the halogen night lignt on to read the kitchen clock! How much energy does that use, compared to the LED clock on the oven? So how about an LED oven night light and leave the LED clock as an option for the customer?

EXCELLENT MICRO WAVE

This is our second Advantium. We replaced one we had for 15 years mainly because we went to all stainless steel. We have had many great meals using our Advantium micro wave.

Couldn't Go Back

While researching a new set of appliances for our kitchen, we looked at regular over-the-range microwaves. But, having had an Advantium for almost 15 years, we just couldn't imagine not having this convenient appliance. Even though we were finally getting a convection oven, we knew the advantages that Advantium has even over convection. The fact that you can use the Advantium in so many ways (microwave, convection, Advantium cooking), makes it such a versatile appliance. It might cost quite a bit more than a microwave, but it can do the work of an oven, and more. You can completely cook pieces of bone-in chicken in about 20 minutes (as quick as an Instant Pot, but with crispy skin), without the toughness that results from microwaved chicken.
I don't know if we will ever have a kitchen without an Advantium again. We use the Advantium feature so much, that we have family favorite recipes that we do not even know how to make without the Advantium.

Cooks well but poorly made

This is our second advantium 240 and we love the cooking capabilities of this oven.
This model, however, has had nothing but problems with the external components. The selector knob comes off within months of purchase. It's easy to hold the knob to the selector axle so we lived with it.
However, a few years later, the handle to open and close the door came off. Again, we could work around it but it really became inconvenient. So, we tried to get it repaired through our warranty...that only covers the electrical parts or items that prevent the microwave from functioning. Not being able to get into the microwave, to use it to cook, seems like a prevention of function but I don't make the warranty rules.
We tried to get the handle part from a variety of sources and finally ordered it through GE. All went well as far as procuring the part, it was pricey but we needed the part. We did remember that we should have ordered the selector knob with the handle but when we called back, they could not add the knob to our order and would need to generate a separate order. This would not have been an issue except it would have added another shipping and handling fee, which is expensive so we deal with the issues.
Replacing the oven handle is a bit tricky. My husband is a mechanical engineer and my son is a computer science graduate and it took some doing, even with the help of YouTube. So, this exercise is not for the faint of heart or skill.
So, to sum up, this item an integral part of our kitchen cooking routine...it's a fabulous combination of microwave and oven that is amazing for tasks that you may not want to do in a full oven. When we built our house, we wired the microwave for 240 power because that gets even better results with Advantium. I fully recommend the Advantium technology.
However, given the quality of the overall quality of this specific product and the design flaws, I would not recommend purchasing this product. The warranty and GE's replacement parts costs (and I understand they don't make these in bulk so I don't blame them, it's just a consideration one has to make), I cannot recommend this particular product.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great 2nd oven

This is not a microwave. This is an oven. I love the Advantium technology, convection and speed cook. Amazing, oven-like results. The regular microwave is a bit uneven, but only when using the fast 30-second button. Otherwise, it's fast and powerful with an abundance of pre-set options. I will never go back to a regular microwave again.

I love this microwave but I constantly have the repair man out fixing it!!!!!!.....my relative has the monogram version of this and hers is always broke as well.. I wish GE would issue a recall on this microwave
