This mat is very comfortable and has good grip - to a point. I mostly use it for hot yoga and have found myself slipping more than once. I hope this gets better after a breaking in period, but overall I'm pleased with my mat.
I love my new mat because it is easy on the knees for all yoga poses. And my feet don't slip. But it slides on the floor from the first time I used it. I need to be careful.
My mat slides so much I haven't been able to use it in yoga class because it's all over the place. I like the mat and would love to use it but It just sits in my car.

This was my first mat purchase. I used it for hot yoga and obviously I was expecting to slip, since this mat was not specifically designed for hot yoga. I didn't slip much but then again I do not sweat much. If i did it would've been extremely difficult to use this mat without a towel on top. Overall this mat is alright for regular yoga.
I decided to get real about my practice a month or two ago and I am very pleased with my first Gaiam mat. 5mm is ideal for the floors I'm working on. Can't wait to get more advanced in my practice and maybe getting a towel or two!
I bought this a while back and didn't see any issue as I only used to go to regular classes but now that I am more advanced, I go to hot yoga/power classes which result in much more sweat/heat. I am very unhappy with this mat now because of that as I slip and slide around on it. I even took a fall onto my face this past week because I don't have enough grip. I know its too late to return it, but I would if I could.
It is a replacement mat for one that was peeling. The company was very good about replacing the other mat. It is a little more slippery than I would like as new, but has a really good feel, is wearing in well, and is light to carry around.
