Good for about a year, then.....

This is the worst phone I have ever owner. It was good for the first year or so then it tanked!
It started going crazy at about 16 months old. At first I would get about 20 hrs out of a charge. I would charge it overnight and get a full day out of it then by evening have to put it on the charger. Then at about 16 months old it would start occasionally shutting off in the middle of the day, when I would turn it on it would say low battery and I would have to give it a charge to get through the day. That went on for about a month and now it does it 3 or 4 times a day! I still charge it at night and I am lucky if the charge lasts 3 hours in the morning. After getting a new battery is still does the same thing so it's not the battery! I have tried doing a hard reset and that didn't solve any thing either. I can't wait till my contract is up in 9 months so I can switch carriers!
Pros: Bright display, scratch resistant screen
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, expensive, heavy, can't mute the alarm, short battery life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been an android owner for two years now. It was finally time to upgrade to a new platform after enjoying the Motorola Droid (original). I came to realize the outdated platform was going to miss a lot of the great updates to come from newer OS releases. I wanted a device I thought would contend with the best phones on the market for these updates. My decision was the Samsung Droid Charge. One reason was that 4G should remain supported for sometime being a newer technology for VZW. Another reason is that the Charge maintains the minimum requirements to see future updates unlike the original Motorola Droid.
The Charge is a great phone and I have put it through some trials to find the limitations. Many reviews of this phone indicate the battery life as completely horrible. This is a breakdown of my experience on battery life with the Charge. After unplugging the device I immediately began to stream a movie from HBOGo, the movie ran for 1:40:03 (hrs:mins:sec). I did not notice much give in the battery status after watching this movie. I accessed the media hub on the phone and watched another movie, this time running 1:34:08. The battery still held strong and still had life. I played online with the phone for an hour and a half, downloaded 23.6 MB of data, and used various other apps for an hour. This adds up to 5:44:11 for screen-on time. There was some standby time during this process as well. The phone was off the wall charger for a total of 18:46:09 before it died on me. That is almost six hours of screen on-time and over 13 hours of standby time. This was all accomplished with the OEM battery.
Most people are trading from a phone of lesser technology like most flip phones in which the battery life in significantly incomparable. With a smartphone the battery will have to be charged daily. That is just the technology of our time. After this battery test, I have yet to own a standalone DVD player that can contend with the Charge, and that says a lot.
The super AMOLED screen provides a seductive appeal in its brilliant color and clarity. It kind of puts my 50” Sony projection high def to shame. The speakers seemed week until I played with the volumes in the settings which helped a little. Samsung also included some huge file games on the device that cannot be deleted (Lets Golf 2 and Rock Band). These are trial games as well and should have been the full game with the high price of the phone. I really do enjoy the Samsung user interface (UI) though; it can be user friendly if you take the time to learn your device. There are many features to review on this phone. All-in-all, I am completely satisfied with the Charge and would recommend it to anyone.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: speakers could be better, price is high
I would recommend this to a friend!

Barely Mobile Device & poorly designed
on August 10, 2011

When I first picked up the phone I was amazed by it's features & how quickly it connected to the web & it's download speeds. I don't think anyone can argue this phone isn't loaded with top features & is very fast.
However, the pros for me seem to end there. The battery life was schockingly short. I can't seem to get much more than 6 -7 hours without a charge & I'm not a heavy user. I barely watch any video, I lowered the brightness of the screen as much as I could & every time I pick up my phone I watch the battery meter shrink. I've never had a phone that I couldn't simply use throughout the day & charge at night. The solution is to constantly charge the phone, carry chargers with you, get a spare battery & a car charger. How is that mobile?
I find the phone call portion particularly clumsy. I can definetly look up a contact and send thru a call much faster on a traditional cell phone or texting phone.
Another irksome feature was with the design. The screen shut off switch is almost directly opposite the volume control. For example, when using your index finger to adjust the volume with your palm on the back you clearly to stablize the phone with your thumb, which naturally is hovering over screen on/off toggle. I've already turned my screen off a handful of times when adjusting volume.
Another complaint is the ringing volume, you need to place your phone screen downward if you want to hear it b/c the speaker is on the back and muffles easly when placed screen-facing up.
Lastly, I have a bluetooth feature with my car so I can make calls hand free. Allthough the charge connects to the bluetooth, it's tends to lose connection & my car can't read the address book of the phone, greatly taking away my ability to make calls hands free. My previous phone NEVER lost bluetooth connection and gave the car access to the address book.
Overall a powerful phone, but it's ruined by some poor design features & terrible battery.
Samsung can remedy this issue with a more powerful battery than can retrofit otherwise it's too much hassle. I would not recommend this phone. Unfortunately I'm stuck for a while.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: terrible battery life, poor design
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I wasn't too sure I could get used to a 4.3" screen phone, but by just looking at the quality of the screen, you look back at smaller screen, and wonder how did you ever used the "little ones" before!
Let's start with the speed. Moving from a 500Mzh processor to the 1 Ghz, is a huge improvement for me. everything runs smooth, no lag, and allows you to truly multitask.
4G LTE: anybody who thinks have used 4G from other carries, has used "Faux G" really. LTE is impressive, reliable and steady. Speeds depend on market, so far in Vegas about 15Mbps and Phoenix around 24Mbps all day long.
Browser: Very good browsing experience, I am yet to find a website the Charge won't display correctly. Flash and all works great!
Camera: This is definitely where the Charge takes a huge advantage on any competitor. The camera interface is very intuitive for "auto" mode, but it does let you configure just about anything as a real Point and Shoot's "Manual" mode as well. It will never compete with an SLR, but it will give a run for it's money to a point and shoot anytime. And comparing it to other smartphones camera, win every time.
a couple of things worth mentioning, that are no "deal breakers" for me are: 1) no LED notification light. If you have a missed call or message, you must turn the screen on to see what's going one. Other phones will let you know with a small light blinking different colors for missed calls, messages, and email. 2) No photo camera hard button. To snap a picture you must press the screen. No huge deal breaker, but wanted to let you know it is just not there, and sometimes that button comes in pretty handy. 3) Netflix and Skype are not currently unavailable, although Skype announced that is working on a Video version for the Charge, and I'm sure Netflix will follow shortly.
Overall a fantastic phone, lightweight, full of features, and very well built.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is my first Droid phone. I was holding out for an I5 but just could not wait. Really like the look and feel of this phone. Very fast on 4g network. Apps install quickly. Color is great. I would prefer better speakers. Both of the available Samsung docks look and work great. Battery life seems to be good for a phone of this type. 4G is now on in Akron, Ohio. Thanks Samsung!
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: average speakers
I would recommend this to a friend!

Worst phone ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely hate this phone. Worst phone I have ever owned. Do NOT buy. Screeching noises, dropped calls, etc. I have been on the phone for days trying to get this resolved. They say it's a manufacturing problem. For the money I've spent on this phone, I'm disgusted.
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Very laggy

Very slow and laggy. Full of bugs that Samsung needs to send updates for. SD card is already corrupted. Have spent hours on the phone with cell provider...no one knows how to fix the problems I'm having. Screen turns black when on speaker so you can't hang up. Auto brightness is always too dim. GPS takes 5 mins to locate you. Samsung installs 3 pages of useless apps that you CAN'T uninstall. Phone doesn't notify you of a missed call or text unless you turn the screen on. Vibration is too light even at highest setting. Battery goes dead in 12 hours of very minimal use.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Too big, Did not meet expectations, slow
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
