Great Phone, but held back by poor battery life and...

First of all, let me state that I love my Droid Charge. It's beautiful, powerful, and lightweight. On top of that, Samsung's TouchWiz skin is actually pretty solid, with intuitive shortcuts for bluetooth/wifi/etc on the notification bar, and a permanent application dock. However, the battery life has been very disappointing in my experience. The phone simply cannot hold a charge from 6am to 10pm like my Motorola Droid could. The other negative is Samsung's very, very delayed OS updates, without even providing so much as an upgrade schedule for the device. Android 2.2 is a great OS, but there are some applications that require Gingerbread (2.3), and it's a shame that such a powerful phone is held back for seemingly arbitrary reasons.
Cons: poor battery life, no android 2.3 upgrade in sight, back of phone scratches easily
I would recommend this to a friend!

Overall very good--but takes a bit to get used to

To set some context: This is my first smart phone, although I have owned and used an iPod Touch for the past two years. I'm not into a lot of social media (I'm an older dude!), but am reasonably tech savvy.
The good: The screen is fantastic. The phone is responsive and the touch screen works very well. Once I got used to the android, I found it fairly easy to use. It's easy to download photos and music--without having complicated sync'ing software that must be used (iTunes).
The bad: The actual cell phone function does not work as well as my old "dumb" phone. When I was using 4G, calls dropped all the time. When I lock the phone on 3G, the call dropping stopped (not a Samsung issue, but a Verizon issue, I assume)--but overall sound quality is not as good as my old phone.
Battery Life: There have been lots of review comments on battery life. I find I get about 18 hours of "average" use before requiring a re-charge. But I am being careful to turn-off functions I'm not using when I can (like Blu Tooth, GPS, and 4G). Average use for me is 6 to 8 calls of 5 minutes, 30-60 min of web browsing, and maybe 60 min of gaming. The fact that I can charge it with a simple USB connection helps a lot--my car has a USB port!
Blue-tooth to my car works fine. I have a Nissan 2011 Murano--and even tho the phone does not appear on Nissan's approved list, everything works fine for me. It linked to the car with no issues. I do have an occasional issue where the person I'm talking to has trouble hearing me, but I think that's the phone issue above, not the blue-tooth link.
Camera The camera takes great photos, but I find the phone a bit awkward to hold as a camera--I either wind up accidentally pushing the volume buttons (zoom in camera operation) or the power button, or having my finger over the lens! I also don't like that the camera doesn't show me my photo automatically--you have to touch the screen, and then perform a "go back" to get back into camera mode. Also, there is considerable delay from pushing the "shutter" button until the picture is taken--much more than on my old digital camera or my previous phone.
GPS/Mapping (via Google) The GPS in the Charge is really great. It finds my location very quickly, and the maps are accurate, with real-time traffic flows. I'm amazed how accurate the voice response is--I can say "Navigate to XYZ", and 9 out of 10 times, it understands me!
User Interface Well, it's complicated. What else can I say. The iPod touch is very intuitive. This is not. Even answering a call is more complex--there was something simple about just flipping open the cover of my old "dumb" phone and saying hello!
Yes I would recommend this to others, but with some reservations.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: camera is slow
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is a great phone. Nice display, Nice camera/video camera. Customize it to your liking. Does not have admin access (no root). The speaker is not so good but its loud and works. Phone quality is excellent thanks to mobile carrier. N*tfl*x works! Your phone can be customized to your liking so please dont judge poorly over apps or themes you can change them or add them. I can see this company making a "charge 2" with more processors and ghz also more ram. Love this phone good job Samsung!
Pros: camera/video is excellent, beautiful display, samsung goodness!
Cons: no root access, more ram please, one processor, bloatware cannot be uninstalled

The Samsung Droid Charge is an excellent phone and a credit to the Droid name. As for the fact that I don't live in a 4G LTE area, I can't attest to the phone's speed in a 4G Network, but in a 3G Network, the Droid Charge is extremely fast. The only problem that I have is at times, I constantly go in and out of 3G, 1X, and no service when sitting still. The Battery Life is rather short, but considering what you can do with this phone, that is to be expected. This phone has excellent screen quality when taking pictures and videos and even straming videos from Apps such as Netflix. The sound is amazing as well. This phone is excellent with streaming music as well. This phone does not have Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread) yet, but I am waiting until it does. Overall, this is an excellent phone. While it was a second choice...I was waiting for a highly anticipated Motorola Phone and chose this due to the timing of Verizon's new data plans being released...I am extremely happy with my choice, and I would recommend this phone to anyone who asks about it.
Movies are clear and great sound, Touch screen glides very easy and smooth, the mic's for speech work better then any phone I have had, You have a my files to make it easy to find files you move from your computer, Internet is like being on my laptop very fast, Battery life good 2 batteries go from 5am to 8pm this is very heavy use and I turned the brightness up to half. Love Samsung Media hub, you can buy movies and share with up to 5 devices. This phone also has a task manager so you can clear the Ram memory/ and shut down running apps if the phone starts to slow down.
Great phone. Finally a droid phone that performs as well or better than the iPhone. Very stable, no force closes, the touch screen works very well and the display is very bright and clear.
