Outstanding Printer

Background: I had a Phaser 8550 DN. Out of the box, the engine had to be replaced and the color was not as perfect as it should be. It was good enough to print documents necessary for the customer. After a couple of years the printer let me know to acquire the maintenance Kit. So I installed an Extended Maintenance Kit and my color snapped in and was perfect. The Phaser 8550 DN ended up being an outstanding printer, but I kept the extended warranty active due to the failures I had experienced.
I asked my local Warranty Maintenance Tech, after installing a broken feed gear in the Phaser 8550 DN about the ColorQube 8570 DN. He told me several large local companies have purchased a boat load of the 8570s and were very pleased, He told me that the reliability and quality of print is much better than the 8550. With that, I upgraded to the ColorQube8570 DN.
I am very pleased with the ease of set-up, and operation. I have already delivered to my customer 3 documents using this printer. My customer was impressed with the sharpness, color and the professional looks of the document. He asked me what changed. I did not say anything, except the printer is operating well. I have had the ColorQube 8570 for 2 months, so far, without a problem.
For a office use only, I had purchased a HP and Dell. The HP I had nothing but one failure after another, to the point of donating the printer to a technical school. HP would not stand by their product. So I purchased a Dell Work Center. Color is poor, and the laser cartridges are to expensive for the number of copies. So I purchased a XEROX 3220 WorkCentre. B/W laser jet, and it works perfectly, not one problem after 1.5 years.
HP was the standard, but XEROX, I believe, is setting the standard now. The cost analysis tells me that the ColorQube 8570 DN is more cost effective than HP or DELL. The black & white WorkCentre 3220 is beautiful and has outstanding printing, good enough to deliever some documents, not requiring color, to the customer.
Bottom line: The ColorQube 8570 DN, in my opinion, is worth the investment in quality of print and is very cost effective in operational cost and is favorable in comparing the cost of ink cubes vs. ink cartridges and/or color toner cost per page. XEROX Service people have been outstanding on the Phaser 8550, thus I expect the same, if I need help on the ColorQube 8570 DN.

would not spend the money again

every time I try to print it crashes Microsoft Word or Firefox, but when the software comes back up, and I try to print again it works. I could not even find the page count --following the directions in the manual-- to renew the service agreement.

A Downgrade from previous model - Noisy, broken-sounding paper feeding

I previously owned an Phaser 8400 and then owned a Phaser 8560. Unfortunately the ColorQube 8570 is not up to par. It is a significantly worse product compared to the older Phaser 8560. Besides the more expensive ink, there seems to be a major defect with the page feed roller system on this new design. After about 700 copies my machine developed a loud grinding sound every time it made a print. As a prior owner of this product line, I knew this was not quite right. A Xerox technician came out and replaced the rollers under warranty. A few weeks later the problem came back. I thought I had a lemon and got Xerox to replace my machine.
They have great customer service and did replace my machine, but the second machine (produced several months later from the first machine) now has developed the same plastic grinding sound every time I make a print.
The Xerox has been demoted in our office. We now use a brother black and white laser for the heavy lifting and then "plug our ears" every time we need to make a color print on the ColorQube.
Hopefully Xerox will come around and fix the paper feed mechanism on the next product release. My advice to buyers--wait until they come out with the next generation of ColorQube.
Summary of issues: Loud grinding noises Bad print drivers for Mac OS X More expensive ink than older models A long time to warm up (typical of ink block technology)

This Colorcube is my second Xerox product after owning a Phaser, the precurser to the Colorcube. On that one, I ran through more than 100k copies within the first year without difficulty. The only issue has to do with compatible inks. On two separate occasions I used compatibles and both times had problems. The first time required a tray replacement, the second time lead to inferior printing results.

Great for the price, if you don't print a lot. Expensive inks.

This is a great printer for the price if you don't print a lot. Inks are expensive and you cannot print on a page twice. Inks will run (melt). Also not durable to heat.

The smell of the ink gives us allergies.

We used the ColorQube8570 for about a month. Unfortunately, we had to replace the printer, due to the venting of the fumes from the ink. The printer was placed in a small office and soon after we installed the printer some of the people in the office were getting a skin rash. The fumes we just absolutely obnoxious. Since we replaced the printer with a regular color laser printer we have no such issues. I am asked if to recommend the printer, as long as you don’t place the printer next to you on a desk in a small office this is the best printer you can buy. Quality and reliability is excellent. It is fast and great for large volume printing.

Expensive Unit to Operate

The per-page print cost advertised by Xerox must assume no low power cycles, as we frequently filled the used ink containers. We believe this is due to printer purges of the heated ink in the ink-heads as the printer is turned off or as it goes into power saving mode. I any event, we were purchasing all colors of ink much more frequently than than predicted by the Xerox cost per page numbers.
Print quality was average to good, but ink usage is a serious concern.
