Wastefull Ink Is Way Too Expensive!

Don't be fooled by the inexpensive initial price of this printer. They'll get you over and over on the Dry Ink later. With a Price Tag of $600 to replace the Ink (all colors), this printer might make sense if it used the Ink in small amounts. But instead, It slowly looses all the ink to the "Waste" tray. I've used my printer only a couple times per month, but cannot turn it off, (Instructions recommendation) which end up wasting my electricity and printer electronics. If I do turn it off, the printer scrapes off an excess buildup of wasted wax ink and throws it away every time you turn the printer on again. Even if you NEVER actually used the printer to print, but simply turned it on and off each night and next morning, you'd go through all your INK in no time. This does not sound very "GREEN" to me at all.

Not Good For Cardstock or Specialty Printing
on March 21, 2012

I thought that going the solid ink route would be great. The ink size saves on space and is more eco-friendly. The printer is good if you are doing basic printing on traditional plain paper. It does print well on non-gloss cardstock. However, if you plan to print a lot of photographs, especially on gloss paper I would not recommend. You can see the color dots that make up the image. It does not look photo quality. Additionally, if you plan on printing something that requires a full bleed, you must trim it to size yourself. But, when you do this the ink flakes off. Likewise if you have something you want to fold and there is ink on the crease of the folded area, the ink will flake off and there will be no color. Additionally, on coated paper, petallic or metallic papers the ink will easily flake off when you touch it.
I would only recommend this printer, if your use is for basic printing of emails, word docs, spreadsheets, power points. If you want to use it for printing on cardstock gloss/coated paper or specialty papers, and may have projects that require folding or cutting, this printer is not for you.

Very disappointed

Our office has purchased three solid ink Xerox printers, first one lasted three years, second one died after two and the last one went only 18 months.
This is a one-person office that prints less than a ream a week, that is less than 40,000 pages total. Ink is stupid expensive, maintenance kits are expensive and then the printer dies an early death. I would not recommend this product for any level of office.

No Laminate
on May 29, 2014

The printer is okay, the quality of the prints is very nice although the cubes are pricey. The biggest issue for me is that the technology doesn't fuse to the paper like powder toner and if you try to laminate anything the colors run and change color. Have to send things out to printer now.

Great printer with only a few hiccups
on October 18, 2011

This printer is easy to use and maintain. The print quality is pretty good, but not as good as I was expecting. I have learned that the ink does not last near as long as they say. If you are printing any type of graphics, it goes through the ink fast!! And the little wax cubes are not cheap. The other issue I have with this printer is that on some types of paper, the "ink" can be easily scratched off. Not cool when you are printing marketing materials. You know they will not look their best by the time they reach your client. The front paper feeds are great and allow for easy printing of various types of paper (thickness and size). Overall, I would recommend this printer, but as with all printers, you have to take the good with the bad!

Can't Laminate and breaks after a year
on July 11, 2013

You are unable to laminate anything that comes out of this printer as all the colours will change and merge. And if thats not bad enough, after a year something will go wrong with it. For us its the power circuit, so having turned it off, it will no longer turn on so no printing for a while.

PRINTER USE and LIFESPAN...
on February 1, 2014

I'm on my fourth machine of this model type Xerox printer (including its predecessor, the Phaser 8560 series).
I've been very happy with the print quality. However, you can expect to only get about 3 years out of these machines, at which point its simply cheaper to buy a new machine rather than get it repaired. (It actually costs more to repair than to replace this thing.)
The ink is pricey for this model, so I considered getting the ColorQube 8870 (which is a LOT more expensive). However, the only difference between the ColorQube 8870 and the ColorQube 8570 from what I've been able to ascertain is that the print heads of the 8870 model have been modified to accept the lower priced ink.
Since the gears on these things wear out and limit the lifespan to ONLY about 3 years, I wouldn't even consider the ColorQube 8870. However, as long as you understand these printers are disposable, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the ColorQube 8570.
For average monthly runs of about 2000 to 4,000 prints, the 8570 performs quite well. If you require 3,000 or more prints per month; then this machine will probably not meet your expectations.

Fast - Great Color

PROS: The Print Quality is very good. The Colors are rich.
CONS: on small areas (faces in photos) you do see some small dots in the lighter areas - otherwise the color is uniform and even. It is a nicer print than even the commercial Laser printers I 've seen.
The WAX PRINT - is not as durable as a color laser print. If a solid image is folded, it will 'break' the image in that spot.
PROS: The speed is very good for a small office. Invoices print very rapidly. CONS: The speed on Large runs of photos - it pauses while it images and then rapidly spits the page out. It does take time to re-image the next print, whereas a color laser still has it in memory.
PROS: I have not owned a commercial Color Laser - but have been told the maintenance costs are high. This is relatively inexpensive to maintain HOWEVER, we own this ColorQube because our Phaser 8560 had a Head Failure and another failure and was replaced.
CONS: Nothing much went wrong - but when it did, it was big. (only product on which I've purchased extended warranty - and am fortunate we did.)
Uses only XEROX inks - sticker shock when buying in bulk - but does appear to be less expensive than operating a desk jet.
