I Couldn't be Happier

I purchased a PIXMA MP230 because I needed something quick for school and it was on sale; however, a month later I was given this model, the MX882, as it didn't fit in my mother's hutch. It has been 2months now and as my title says, I couldn't be happier. A bit of background, these two models are the first two printers I've ever owned and I am by no mean technologically inclined nor a computer wiz.
First off, the construction feels much more solidly built than the MP230, however, it does comes with a trade off as the MX882 is quite a bit bulkier which someone with limited space will need to consider. This sucker is like a little tank big but durable!
Now on to the fun stuff! The MX has a lot more functions than my little MP, w/ an added scanner, wireless function, fax capabilities, dual sided print option, mult. paper load/feed options, etc but of course also comes w/ a larger price tag too. Now, I have not tested out the wireless function nor the fax but I use the copier, and scanner often and probably print more than most small businesses.
Copier and scanner work great and found the scanner menu easy to navigate. I print a lot of school documents which all come out looking the same as they did on my MP. The photo print quality is where the MX882 shines above the MP, it's exceptionally better. I take around 2000 pictures a week, printing anywhere from 20-100, all of which have come out looking great, just as vibrant and detailed as if I had sent them off to be printed.
The print speed is a tad slow but nothing that has made me stare at the clock nor want to shake the machine. I figure if it's going to give me good quality I'll wait the extra 3 seconds. The noise level is very minimal ESPECIALLY compared to the MP. Ink usage seems average when compared to every other inkjet printers I've used, no more and of course no less.
Set up was cake and learning how to use it has been just as easy; however, I do feel like they could have done a better job as to the placement of the ink cartridges. They're not hard to change but I find it slightly inconvenient. As some others have stated, the paper tray is fairly shallow but the tray is easily accessible and my printer sits next to me so it's not even something I thought about until reading other reviews.
Overall this printer has been great and I absolutely recommend it. If I had to give the printer back to my mother today I would immediately head back out after the hand off and purchase this model.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, easy to use, minimal noise, lots of functions/options, vibrant photo prints
Cons: Large Footprint

Love this Amazing Machine

I totally love this Canon MX882. It prints beautiful plain prints, bright colorful photographs, scans to email, faxes, copies... it just does absolutely anything you could want in a small home office setting. And, at a small footprint too. I am very picky on quality, and Canon has always been right on for me. The only thing I am not crazy about is that I would like a sturdier paper drawer. It doesn't hold too much. However, this is a minor inconvenience compared to all that it does.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Small Footprint, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use, versitile
Cons: small paper tray

Great all in one machine

As a guy with no home phone I have never tried using it as a fax machine but that is an outdated technology anyway. It was very easy to setup. Ran just as fast on wifi as my prior printer/scanner did when connected via USB. I had upgraded from an older model and I was happy to see the scanner software was updated to fix the biggest things that had bothered me for the 5 years I used a prior model. The biggest improvement to me was the ability to scan 8.5x13 documents from the document feeder which was not possible with my prior model. It may not be the smallest all in one but keep in mind it does have the ability to function in full duplex in both scan and print unlike most cheaper and smaller models out there.
I did have some network trouble with it after lightning fried my modern router and I had to go back to an old Linksys WRT54G v1 router but that was a temporary problem not related to the printer itself.
Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output, easy to use, two sided scan, two sided print
Cons: Large Footprint

This printer has gotten me through grad school! It is versatile, easy to maintain, compatible with my wireless network so I can print from laptop, desktop or phone and usually quite fast. The set-up was easy, it is very durable considering what I have put it through and easy to use. For the price you can't beat it.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use

This printer is our second Canon printer, and is by far the best for a small office or home use. Because it's wireless we print from computers, tablets and phone. Never disappointed with the results.

If Wireless Dosn't Work

Tip from my MX870. IF WIRELESS PRINTER WON'T RESPOND TO 'PRINT' COMMAND BUT IS CONNECTED TO ACCESS POINT: First, cycle printer power off then on; next, cycle router power off then on. When router is back online, any queue should automatically begin printing and printer should accept "print" command. Thanks to MX870 user diddumsK for this tip from KnowledgeBase.
