Nice little laptop, so easy to cart around. Windows 8 was a lot easier to get used to than I thought it would. The only disadvantage I can see is that I'm used to used the ten-key pad to type numbers, but that was a choice I made to get the wonderful features, speed and power of this model. I think this laptop will be in my life for a long time (well, in tech years).
Have had absolutely no problems with this Dell 15R. I love the help features that are right at my fingertips. I lived with that help the first few days, and now just refer to it when I want to learn something new about my magic machine.
Just a great little computer for the price. I believe I couldn't have done better without spending twice the money.
Pros: lightweight, slim easy to carry like a book
Cons: no 10-key pad, no other cons--great design!

15R Great Laptop

I bought this in July 2012 for my daughter who is going off to college. Setup was easy. Screen resolution is nice and surprisingly the speakers are clear and powerful. The keys are raised and fit the fingers perfectly. Seems a bit heavy but maybe I'm just used to my super-light work travel laptop.
It came with Skype, built-in webcam, and other stuff my daughter was excited about. I added Office 2010 education suite which I picked up directly from her college bookstore.
Battery life seems pretty good. Her WIFI on her laptop works extremely well and reaches the opposite end of our house where my 2-year old laptop can't.
I also ordered an optional switchable lid that was mailed separately. Nice selection to appease any picky teenager. There weren't ANY directions included so look for a slide latch on the laptop - maybe around the hinge.
In summary, I'm happy with this laptop and so is my daughter. I would certainly order another one, if needed.

I have had the inspiron 15r(5520)for over a week now, this is my second dell that I own (other being my Dell Inspirion 2305 desktop) and this laptop is great!

the noise of the laptop is very low!
great right out of the box, just needed to install my software and I was up and running in no time!!!
Boot time is just seconds! AWESOME speed!
Cons:
weight of course (ultrabook would solve this but screen size goes down too)
touchpad is ultra sensetive (it will take time getting use to seeing my other one was non responsive)

I just received this laptop today and the touch pad doesn't work. After 2 hours call with the call center in India and several rounds of fixing the "new" laptop over phone they finally agreed to send me another laptop. I don't know how many stars to give as I have not used the laptop yet other than restarting it a couple of times. I hope I get a good working laptop as a replacement so that I can write a positive review about the laptop. Also wish Dell should do a thorough quality check before sending out laptops.

This laptop is very affortable & does everything I need it to do. All I did was call dell & spoke to a knowledgable rep & told him what I was going to use this laptop for & he helped me build the computer for my personal use. I did not want a bunch of software on there I wouldn't use. I do use microsoft excel/word quite a bit for personal use & the rep advised me that microsoft office was actually on sale at the time I was purchasing the laptop. The rep made it very easy for me to build the perfect computer for me. He was fast, efficient & helpful. He also told me of a printer that was on sale at the time & it was a very good deal. Since I've owned the computer, I've had to call the tech support (not because the computer wasn't any good, but because I'm not very computer savy) the tech support is VERY helpful! They know what they are doing. Very satisfied customer

I am situated in India and I had this laptop delivered to me by one of my relatives who lives in India.
Firs of all Kudos to the dell delivery for making it in time which enabled to get my product on time.
Well the laptop works like a charm.It's a great upgrade for me as I have been using an HP Pavillion dv6000 for some 5 years now and this one hits you like a refreshing breeze.
The specs for my model are:500 GB HDD,6 GB RAM,Intel 2nd Gen Core i3.
The display of the laptop is amazing and the picture quality is beautiful.
The touch pad does all the multi-gestures really efficienty.Though the touch senstivity is a bit on the higher side but I can definitely learn to live with that and in fact already have a hang of it.
The keyboard is amazing,well placed,not at all cramped up and does full justice to the laptop.If you want the one with backlight you will have to get the more expensive Special Edition.Well,that's just a trade off you will have to keep in my mind.
I don't find it overly heavy.Most of my work is at home and therefore it is truly a "LAPTOP" in true sense of the word.
The battery lasts good for around 4 hours 20 minutes. I have been using it on the Desktop Charge Mode and it works really well for me.
However for me the best thing about this laptop is that doesn't heat up at all(unlike my old HP on which I can cook an egg at times).It doesn't make much sound either and is really quiet.The fan is pretty efficient and very less noisy.
The internet and bluetooth connectivity is par excellence.
The Waves MAXX audio feature is amazing.You will come to the know the difference between the sounds once you switch off the MAXX Audio feature.Nice Sound.
Though I haven't yet tried the Intel WiDi feature because I don't yet have the adapter to connect it with my LCD but by the look of it,it does look pretty awesome.You can live stream videos from your laptop your tv wirelessly.Can't wait to get my hands on an Adapter real soon.
The 6gb ram does full justice and waiting time is also negligible.
The integrated hd webcam is more than sufficient for video chat and for clicking normal pics.
The 3.0 usb ports are amazing and have drastically reduced the file transfer time.
The laptop boots up really fast be it from sleep mode or from power ON/OFF.

To conclude, I would definitely recommend it. It has been a great purchase for me.Definitely worth every penny I spent on it.

Great Laptop!

I have purchased two of these laptops. One is to carry with me to work and on trips, and the other is for my home use. This is the best laptop that I have owned. It is ready for wireless right out of the box and has an easy setup. It is very fast and the screen is very clear and large. Installation of programs is easy too, and it has a nice design. I highly recommend to anyone who needs a fast, efficient laptop.
Pros: Travel, straeming video, presentations, software design

Dont waste time in searching best laptop like me. This is the best laptop in this price range... I have compared All brands,All specs, benchmarks, user reviews and wasted almost 1 MONTH.. Its performance is awesome.. Looks cool..
pros:good for gaming and multitasking stays cool, good battery life, best display in 1366x768 series laptops in the market,stylish,good keypad and touch, excellent dell support(No one can compete)
cons: heavy 2.7+ kg(we need to carry few more pounds to get good things in life)
My specs: Dell 5520, intel core i5, 4gb ram,1gb ATI Radeon 7670M & Intel HD 4000 , 500gb hd
