We bought the Roku to replace Directv. While the choices are not as extensive as Directv, it is nice not to pay the big bill each month.
Pros: High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi, Hulu Plus coming soon, Reliability, Easy to use, Compact, Easy to set up, Great value, Fast streaming of Netflix, Shows video quality
Cons: Want more video choices, Add a web browser, Inconsistent performance, Add access for free Hulu

Some of the channels are slow to load and frequently pause & reload. More free movies are needed.

We love our Roku! Here are the shortcomings (and most of the shortcomings have to do with the individual channels, not the Roku itself). Criticism related to Roku: We love it! It was very easy to set up. The only thing we haven't figured out is how to connect it to our surround sound (which is currently set up through the DVD player). The wireless signal (though strong in our house) flakes out now and then, and occasionally we have to restart/reconnect the player & wifi. In general the "surfing" experience is cumbersome and slow. It's not a bother if I know exactly what I want to watch, but if I want to scan options for a bit before making a selection it can be tedious. I wish I could create my own menu of favorite shows pulled from various channels. Criticism related to channels: - Netflix "on demand" selection is too limited' - surfing Netflix is cumbersome (it's easier to go to the computer to create the instant view list) - Netflix channel doesn't have a top-menu (this is mainly what makes it so tedious to surf this channel) - Amazon on demand - like netflix, the surfing experience is cumbersome

I absolutely love this thing. I cannot think of any negative comments. Easy set up, easy to use, great picture, etc. I imagine there will be more channels in the near future and look forward to them.

Elegantly simple box and remote

The Roku is attached to an HDTV in a guest bedroom. I'm retired. I like to watch half a movie on a lunch break—a movie my husband wouldn't want to share—and catch up with the rest later. The Netflix account makes it easy to line up instant-watch movies via computer. The on-screen search function is useful, too. When my film-buff son visits, he appreciates being able to pop in and out of a film for certain scenes, and step through almost frame by frame. I look forward to future subtitles via Roku. I find them important in following fast or heavily accented English dialogue. The repeat button is a help in the meantime.
Pros: Gentle on the eyes, Reliability, Compact, Helpful phone contact, High quality picture
Cons: Difficult to set up
