The newest thing in internet television

This product is nice because it eliminates those terrible movie store trips were they harass you to sign up for some rental package. If you connect your roku with an either net cable its performance is top notch, but its wireless service is shaky at best.
Pros: Easy to set up, Compact, Easy to use
Cons: Inconsistent performance, Want more video choices, Need fast internet service
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good if wired

I bought the Roku because it is simple to use, price point and it works on any TV. However it is located 1 story up from my Wireless N router and it is very sloooooooow. I have apple TV on another set in the next room and it streams via wireless just fine. The Roku works best when wired. It is easy to set up when wired. It may take a long time to set-up and update when wireless. If you have a TV that does not supports HDMI and your going to stream video via wire the Roku is the perfect solution.
Pros: Compact, Easy to use
Cons: Need fast internet service, Inconsistent performance, Difficult to set up

I'm very pleased with my box thus far. I have previously used a number of platforms (Boxee--via laptop--and AppleTV) for getting content from the Internet to my TV. Thus far, I have to say Roku is my favorite. I wanted to ensure that I'd have 1080p availability so I sprung for the XD model. I really toyed with the option of an XD|S, but two things stopped me. First, I don't have a dual-band N router (although I do use an n) and I didn't figure I'd get much added value from the dual band option without shelling out for a new one. Second, I don't really have much locally stored video to be streamed, and I probably won't ever--thus I saved the money on the XD|S. Setup was a breeze. I use MAC filtering on my home wireless network and when my initial setup failed (and I knew it would) Roku knew enough to just tell me the MAC address of the unit so I didn't need to root around for it. I'm no video snob, but the picture quality seems great to me. Better, by far, than what my AppleTV or Boxee (at least via netbook) would do for me. If you're a videophile, you can probably find things to complain about, but the laggy-ness of my Boxee via netbook is gone, so I'm happy (although that lag probably had more to do with the graphics processor on my laptop than the boxee software...maybe.) I use a cable Internet connection and I'm usually over 7mbps. So, more than enough to support 1080p streaming (at least according to Roku's suggestions). Not every channel works as flawlessly as Netflix. I did have one or two minor issues with a movie preview channel (Flixter)--although this was related to some video segments and not others. Overall, very good. If I had DSL or some other slower connection (as does a friend of mine with a Roku) performance can be seen to tail off a tad. In the end, you really need to do your research and know what you're getting. If you plan on having EVERYTHING you had with a cable or satellite provider, well, you're probably going to be disappointed. But, if you know what you can get via HuluPlus, Netflix, and AmazonOD (and perhaps other sports channels) you'll be more than satisfied.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, Compact
Cons: 3rd party providers suck

First of all, I cut my cable bill in half thanks to having the Roku box! Netflix is of course, the main draw, but love Amazon on Demand for current movies, Pandora for music, and TWIT TV is live on Roku. Nice! You can add "private" channels by picking up the codes doing a Google search. I now have HGTV, access to all my iTunes music, U-tube, and access to all iTunes podcasts. So I actually have more content available than with Apple TV. Loving it!
Pros: Easy to use, High quality picture, Great value, Compact, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to set up
Cons: Want more video choices

I bought this so I could hook up to Netflix in my bedroom, and set-up was a breeze -- had it hooked up to my home WiFi network in under 5 minutes! Had it connected to my Netflix account in a flash. My WiFi router is a 2005 2nd-generation Airport Extreme (802.11g) and it's not the fastest thing in the world, but the Roku-streamed content was perfect. No pixellating, no hesitation, no problems. I'm fairly techno-savvy, but this was the easiest install ever, and I believe anyone that can plug in an HDMI cable could set this box up with no problems. NASA channel. Free. Awesome. My only complaint is that I can't get the free Hulu content (only Hulu-Plus, which carries a subscription fee), and the Facebook channel only allows you to surf photos, not all of Facebook. A Twitter channel would be a good addition as well.
Pros: Easy to use, Easy to set up, Reliability, Compact, High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi, Great value
Cons: Want more video choices

Wow! I cannot believe how easy this second Roku player was to set up. I also appreciate the fast forward (so much better than my other original Roku.) A VERY HUGE improvement. Those of you with the original model know exactly what I'm referring to. I was concerned about having two players --- not a problem, and both players can be utilized at the same time while viewing different movies or programs.
Pros: High quality picture, Compact, Great value, Easy to set up, Easy to use, Reliability
Cons: None
