it's perfect for me

I moved up to the XD version from the original HD and couldn't be more pleased. This new one supports the higher-resolution HD TV. I generally watch about 6 hours of my favorite recorded network shows through my DVR (not-HD sadly) and then depend on my Roku to deliver internet radio, video subscription content and on-demand content from internet retailers the rest of the time..about 10-15 hours weekly. Operation has been incredibly simple and always responsive from any of the sources. My houseguests, including young children, like it too since there is available content for every taste. I've lowered my cable subscription to the minimum now and see a $80 saving per month in that area. Even when you add in some other subscriptions that cost $8/month, and factor in the few dollars spent on an occasional premium download, it's still a nice saving. Also consider that additional 'channels' are added on a regular basis. Thanks ROKU!! On the downside, I've found the tech support to be annoying. They are likely to be in a far-away timezone so they reply by email hours later, assign a ticket number to your issue, but don't really allow you to have a real email conversation to explain the question/issue to the help desk person who possibly doesn't understand what you ask for. I ended up with add'l ticket numbers even though I included the original # in follow-on conversations. I'm optimistic that they will resolve this soon.

We use this with Netflix. Our only complaint is the limited list of movies available for streaming from Netflix, but we expect this to improve with time.
Pros: Compact, Reliability, Easy to set up, Easy to use, Built in Wi-Fi, High quality picture

Really like the fact that the unit is so compact and yet performs so well. You can move it from TV to TV with virtually no effort. If you use Netflix and Pandora (or any of the other service) you will love this!

A true Media Set Top Box

Here's the lowdown. You can't connect a netbook to a TV, it doesn't have the horsepower for HD video. So you're looking at a more expensive mini PC to get the job done. The nintendo wii doesn't even do HD and the next cheapest thing beyond a custom rig is an xbox 360. Instead of that craziness, the roku does just that, quickly, cleanly and best of all, cheaply. A low power miracle. I'm a techie, and the roku IS the eminent media accessory for the TV. I keep a HTPC for recording and all kinds of things in the living room, and a Roku in my bedroom as I don't have the $$ to be buying multiple HTPC's. With both Hulu and Netflix at your fingertips, you ALWAYS have something to watch. Pandora doesn't hurt either.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, Compact, Great value, Easy to set up, Easy to use, High quality picture

ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I EVER BOUGHT!

Before I purchased my Roku I was trying to stream my movies through my Sony Bravia TV. I kept blaming Netflix for the poor video quality and freezing picture. Sometime's I would not even be able to connect to the stream at all. My son told me about Roku and I thought it would be worth a try since it didn't cost an arm and a leg. It worked out to be fantastic. My picture is waaay better, and I get connected all the time. Many other great things I didn't even know I was misssing, like picking my selections right from the tv. Words cannot describe how well this little unit works. I love it!

I own 5 Roku's; 2 HDs, 2 XDs, and 1 XDS. Netflix and Hulu picture quality is excellent on all 3 models. My daughter loves Pandora. Unlike the clunky connection using a laptop computer, these are dedicated devices that work like a natural extension of the TV, with an elegant interphase with a very fast response to remote control commands. Customer service also continues to improve. The main reason to get the XD or XDS, over the HD, is for the "instant replay" feature, as, for my eyes, the Netflix and Hulu picture quality is excellent on all 3 models.
Pros: High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi, Great value, Video selection, Easy to set up, Reliability, Easy to use, Compact
Cons: Want more video choices

When I was four years old, my mother took me to my very first movie, Snow Whiten in 1941. After that I wanted to go to every movie house we passed. Now that I'm much older, not much has changed. Forget TV, give me a movie. Even in conversations I often use phrases from movies and people really relate. So thankful I decided to use the Roku after having used Netflix which I love. I always watch one movie at night, now I'm watching two.

Cons: Want more video choices
