WE BOUGHT THE ROKU AFTER USING ONE AT A RENTAL CABIN. COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW QUICK IT CONNECTED AND THAT WE COULD ACTUALLY PAUSE IT AND IT WOULD COME RIGHT BACK ON, UNLIKE OUR SONY BLU-RAY WHICH IS GREAT FOR DVD'S BUT NOT STREAMING.
Pros: Great value, Compact, Reliability, High quality picture, ALWAYS CONNECTS, Easy to use, Easy to set up
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome product but you will need either cable internet or DSL in order to use the product effectively. Easy to set up and use. Get Hulu Plus and Netflix and with a standard tv antennae that gets a clear signal than you would through cable tv or satellite...you are all set.
Pros: Great value, Easy to set up, Reliability, Easy to use, Video selection, Compact, High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi
Cons: Want more video choices
I would recommend this to a friend!

Won't pick up wireless signal

It won't pick up wireless signal. I have to connect Sony media player, it picks up the signal, then I disconnect Sony, connect Roku, and only then does it have the signal. Works fine after that point.
Pros: Great value, Easy to use, Compact
Cons: Inconsistent performance, Want more video choices, Difficult to set up
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love my Roku, I use it almost everyday for catching up on shows and movies. It is easy to set up and use and the Wi-Fi connection is great. I wish the remote had a skip forward button along with the skip back button, also sometimes the remote has a delayed response, but those are the only issues I've run into
Pros: Stream Netflix, Easy to use, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to set up, Great value
Cons: No skip forward button
I would recommend this to a friend!

Do not support Subtittles/Caption
on August 5, 2011

Very disappointing! For those of you with hearing impairments, subtitles are not support by Roku first generation. The Roku Customer help suggested to buy the Roku 2. I just paid $80 less than a month ago, and this company can not update the software in the Roku 1 to support subtitles. What a shame! Probably they are partner with Netflix, who do not care either about their customers, just to take advantage of them, in this bad economy.
Cons: Inconsistent performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great box, helped us get off of cable!

This box was one of the crucial parts of being able to cut cable. Plenty of entertainment choices. The biggest part was getting content for the kids to watch without cable and I was able to do this because of this box. I have every option so far from computer w/boxee, roku and tivo. So far roku is the most convenient and easiest to use. We are now cable free and haven't missed it. The kids use netflix and hulu + and even some of the other private channels to get plenty of kid stuff. I haven't gone through all the channels yet but am looking forward to it.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, High quality picture, Reliability, Great value, Easy to use, Video selection, Compact, Easy to set up
