Close, but no cigar.

I bought the XD as a more permanent solution for Netflix viewing (I typically connect my laptop via its HDMI port). The initial setup was easy enough, but whenever I changed the display settings to HD (either 720p or 1080i) the player consistently dropped from my wireless network and would not connect, nor could it actually see my network. Once I changed back to standard definition (either 4:3 or 16:9) it found the network again. In addition, the connectivity to Netflix was inconsistent. I have a 7MB connection, so speed is not an issue. On the plus side, when I could maintain a connection, the Netflix picture quality, even at standard definition, was great. However, I decided to return it because the last thing I want to do after sitting on the couch in the evening is troubleshoot technology issues. I do enough of that during the day for my job.
Really, the only thing I wish I had known when buying my Roku was that I also needed to install a Router if the Roku was to work! If one does not already have a Router, it would be helpful to be told that one is needed and have a "package" of a Roku and a compatible Router provided as a purchase choice. I had to purchase a Router separately. Other than that, I am extremely pleased with my Roku and highly recommend it.
Pros: Reliability, Great value, Easy to set up, Compact, Easy to use, High quality picture
Cons: Want more video choices

I just bought my XD and then a week later the Roku 2 comes out. I used to be an Apple TV fan but it was way too buggy. Roku is the best, most affordable option out there.
Pros: Video selection, Easy to use, Easy to set up
Cons: Inconsistent Internet, Want more video choices, Need fast internet service
