Roku XD Player - very good product

Pros: Easy to use, Great value, High quality picture, Reliability, Compact

Doesn't Work

It doesn't connect to my Wi-Fi. My boyfriend is a big tech geek, so I know the password for the Wifi was entered correctly...but it doesn't connect. Therefore, I can't use it for Netflix, which is the only reason I bought it. I got the mid-grade model for the Wi-Fi, but it's junk. My bedroom TV is about 25 feet from the router in the living room and apparently that's too far for this piece of junk to reach. I really wish they gave WiFi ranges in the item descriptions. I live in a small 1400 square foot house, not a mansion. I can either run an ugly ethernet cable all the way from the living room, up the stairs, through the hallway, and across my bedroom floor, OR buy a Wi-Fi extender which is another $80. I don't want to do either, and I'll probably just return the device and continue using my Wii for Netflix viewing (which gets PERFECT Wi-Fi signal in my bedroom.)
Pros: Compact
Cons: Doesn't Connect to Wifi, Netflix Doesn't Work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I didn't want to buy a gaming device and found this when I was searching for other options. I wanted to buy the HD box, but they only had the step up version at the store, so I had no choice to buy that or wait.

Using roku to compare netflix and amazon streaming services due to netflix impending doubling of their fees to receive streaming video.
Pros: Compact, Great value, Easy to use, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to set up
Cons: OK button too small

Great addition to apple tv, hmm who will win this media battle. Roku is better that the new fruit box. I will be buying a few more of these neat little black boxes.

OK, but needs to improve quality

I read many great comments about the Roku XD, so I was excited to finely purchase one. Then once I started to use it I was no longer excited. I have a 14MB down/ 2MB up cable modem and I am the only one using the bandwidth, but the Roku consistently buffers and it won't give me HD, it always starts out HD then on the first buffering it downgrades it to something that I can barely consider SD. After watching HD for years, I can not stand to watch anything less, so this device is basically useless for watching video. It works great for streaming audio with Pandora, but that is not why I purchased it. Roku needs to add a setting that can force the quality to a level I choose, instead of the Auto setting it uses. Right now, based on my experience with this device I would not recommend it to anyone and I would return it in a second if I could.
