Doesn't work very well

I tried to use this on a different TV in a different room and it wouldn't pick up wifi. So I bought an extender and it still wouldn't pick up wifi. I moved my Wii to that TV and worked perfectly without the extender. Just use your Wii, xbox, or PS3. You don't need Roku product.
Cons: Won't pick up wifi signal, Inconsistent performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great little gadget

This is a great gadget, once I got it working. I got it for Netflix, and, so far, that is all I have used it for. I have been a Netflix subscriber since 2004, and my TV is vintage 1997. It turned out I needed an RF modulator to run between my TV and the Roku. There is NOTHING in the set-up instructions or any place about this. Fortunately, one was needed a few years back to hook up my DVD player. Unfortunately, now my DVD player is not hooked to the TV. I had never used the wireless connection on my modem so that was an added adventure. When I finally got things working, my wife and I selected a Netflix movie to see how that worked. We watched for a while, but needed to run errands. A bit of explanation in the instructions would have been helpful. Like my DVD player, the Roku takes over the TV blocking out my satellite TV service. There is no On-Off switch. The support on the Roku website says to pull the plug. It took me several attempts to retrieve the movie so we could watch it to the end. After a couple of uses, I figured things out, but it sure would have been nice to have some tidbits in the instructions. Support on the website is very good, but you shouldn't have to go running to your computer every time you have a problem. The written instructions should be more comprehensive.
Pros: Great value, Compact, High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to use
Cons: Incomplete instructions, Difficult to set up, No onoff switch
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great but Wifi Problem

The only problem and the cause for only four star has to deal with the WiFi functionality and the interferance problem with my router. If they get too close the WiFi stops on the Roku and I have to use a cable to get the Roku to work again. But if I full the Roku is away from the router, which is behind the TV, the WiFi on the Roku starts working fine again.
Pros: Compact, Easy to use, High quality picture, Easy to set up, Great value
Cons: Wifi disconnection, Want more video choices

Totally don't miss cable or the cost!

We got sick of paying $100 a month for cable and decided on the Roku. It only required one HDMI cable to the back of my TV (I stream via wi-fi) and a power outlet plug. That was it! I added the code on the computer and we were up and running. I stream Netflix and Hulu Plus and it is just enough TV for me! I would recommend this to anyone looking for ways to cut your cable bills.
Pros: Compact, High quality picture, Great value, Easy to use, Reliability, Easy to set up, Built in Wi-Fi
Cons: Want more video choices, Needs more TV show
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointed new user

Wait time makes the device essentially unusable. An example is the Netflix instant queue which we have on a computer and now on the TV connected to the device. Both are on same 5M network although not in the same room. We have considerable delays on the Roku and few on the computer. The Roku was bought with the idea of leaving satellite if we could get enough of what we get via satellite over the internet. This is primarily news. So far it is not even close although I have yet to explore "private" channels or premium channels. I tried to do some of this exploration today and got error message after error message while trying to add channels. This was worse than usual. Either the Roku or the state of TV over the internet has a long way to go. A very disappointed new user.
Cons: Inconsistent performance, Want more video choices
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product finally released me from the chains of cable tv. I feel as if I have escaped from the monopoly and now have freedom. Keep up the good work and hopefully add more channels.

I recently purchased a Roku XD and I have the old Roku NFP001 (The original Roku, I think) that is over three years old. We use them EVERY day. We sometimes run them both at the same time, one in the living room and one in the bedroom. The old one still works like it is new. This is an amazing product. Great value for the money.
Pros: Reliability, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to use, High quality picture, Great value
