This was a Birthday present from wife this year. Our family has used this so much that our regular TV viewing of local channels has been reduced significantly. There's not much we can say about the Roku player that we dislike. It is so easy to use and reliable...I wish that we had purchased this sooner.
Pros: Easy to use, Reliability, Easy to set up, Great value, High quality picture
Cons: Want more video choices

Excellent Little Internet Box for TV

Purchased the Roku XD at a local retailer to replace a major satellite TV service. Since we do not watch sports, we thought this would be possible. Hulu Plus currently has very limited programming, and it was not possible to view regular Hulu on Roku XD; otherwise, the Roku could have replaced satellite TV for us. User Interface (UI) is awkward since it did not have a programming guide similar to what the satellite TV provider has in their receiver. If Roku could develop a single viewing guide, summarizing content available from all of its service providers (in channel-row form) and being scrollable, this would go a long way to replacing current TV viewing systems. I still kept Roku for my home office since we only have 1 satellite TV receiver (for the living room), and Roku is a lot cheaper than having a second receiver. I can tolerate the periodic pauses in viewing due to basic DSL bandwidth issues (and I am too far away from the CO for faster DSL). Another thing: Roku Tech Support via Live Chat was excellent. I had to take my first Roku XD back to the retailer due to DOA, which was exchanged with another one. The second unit worked like a charm.
Pros: Small Size, Decent response time, High quality picture, Video selection, Easy to set up, Built in Wi-Fi, Ethernet Port Provided, Compact
Cons: Roku needs credit card, Want more video choices, Limited cache for buffer, Needs more than basic DSL, Inconsistent performance, Limited Programming

Better than cable any day

My only complaint is that there aren't enough video service providers smart enough to jump on the Roku bandwagon. I can't sing the praises of Roku enough and recommend it to all my friends over any cable provider or online service.

I thought Roku only streamed Netflix and nothing else so imagine my surprise when I got it up and going. The selection is impressive. I'm definately going to cancel cable TV. This is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time and I've recommended it to several friends.

So far have only used with Netflix, but will be checking out other options available. Only problem has been with support - English is not their first language and they seem to be using a script, so "chat" is very slow. But my problems were resolved eventually, and I still like the device.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, Compact, High quality picture, Great value, Easy to set up, Easy to use
Cons: Tech support not easy
