For people who enjoy watching movies on demand but are not interested in spending the money on a Wii or PS3, we definitely recommend a Roku. It was VERY easy to set up, and we're impressed with the selection. It's especially if you go with the cheaper Netflix plan and ignore the others.
Pros: High quality picture, Compact, Reliability, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to use, Easy to set up
Cons: Want more video choices

I would like to have closed caption available. I'm old and hard of hearing. It may be, but I do not know how to set it up.

I am home bound. Finding something entertaining on TV without putting up with 80 % commercials is no fun. With Roku I can select my own shows with no interrupting, blaring commercials. Great product.

Never Got It to Connect

Enjoyed the original without problems. Thought the XD would be a nice upgrade but after 2 hours with a tech support person in another country, it never could connect to the same router that the original one still connects to.
Pros: Compact, Built in Wi-Fi
Cons: Difficult to set up

Inferior to Blueray

This product is not capable of 1080 dpi video and 5.1 surround sound. The product is inferior to Blueray DVD. After multiple help line conversations (Actually computer "Chat" with Non-USA based help desk) I finally learned that the ROKU system is not compatible with my home theater system unless I was willing to compromise video and sound quality. I returned the unit for a refund. [...]
Cons: No Retail Store, Inferior Quality to DVD, Difficult to set up

This is my third and newest Roku. (I have two; I gave another as a gift for a niece) Unlike my old Roku and my Samsung Blu-Ray player, the newest Roku refuses to communicate with my modem/router and Roku Support is incapable of telling me why. Roku Support alone is reason enough never to buy a Roku product. The people contacted by phone cannot speak understandable English. (One called me at 10.30 pm; another called and left a message asking me to call back but did not leave the number.) The two people contacted over the internet both gave instructions that, when followed, disconnected me from them.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
