Best gadget I've purchased this year!

After I gave up my cable TV, I had my television hooked up to my computer so I could view Hulu, Netflix, etc. It was a hassle connecting this wire and disconnecting that one whenever I wanted to watch streaming TV. I also don't like having my TV out in the middle of a room. With the Roku, I was able to put the TV in a cabinet where it belongs, I can operate it just like a regular TV because of the remote (no longer have to jump up and down whenever I need to pause or select a new video). The Roku has already paid for itself with the ability to watch my favorite shows on my TV without having to cough up the money for cable in order to get 70 channels I don't care about and three channels I like. As for what I'd improve--I think the Roku itself is absolutely fantastic! I only wish that the networks would license the content they stream over video provider networks like Hulu or Fancast so that it could be viewed over the Roku and other set-top devices, not just through web browsers.

Terrific disappointment

Owned 3-4 months. Worked initially, despite first defective remote. Despite "excellent" connection shown in settings, 1+mbps dsl download speed and 3 to four dots in performance, has lost connectivity progressively over past months. A recent experiment took 15 minutes to play two minutes of content. Frequently does not connect to Netflix. Sometimes will not connect to home page. Content limited to paid subscriptions(does not as suggested let you watch the Internet on your TV, or did I read that wrong)and special interest content (Tamil channel, Bollywood) plus a few free channels which are composed to a great degree of radio. Access via the 4 way button and the vertical string of channels on the Home Screen is awkward (How hard is it to offer a qwerty input device.)Content of the paid channels - [...], Netflix and Hulu is for the most part second string. Prime films are restricted to the more expensive DVD delivery programs or pay per item rentals on [...]. Free Hulu is not available - how does this work with the profit model? Nor is regular YouTube.The reaction of the unit to the remote is sluggish, reminiscent of the old XT computers. Click and wait.The idea is ok, but not great. The item itself is disgracefully bad.
Cons: Awkward remote input, Buffering interrupts, Sketchy connections, Restricted channel choice
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It is great to get some Netflix movies and old TV shows on demand. But, need more titles (especially if Netflix discontinues it's DVD service as they said!) They had better get ALL of their stuff online before they do! Sometimes the Roku goes down for an hour or two. But sometimes it is the ISPs fault and just resetting my DSL modem fixes the problem.
Pros: High quality picture, Great value
Cons: Want more video choices
