I bought this product due to my expanding use of Netflix. It was either this or the Apple TV. I bought the Roku XD because not only will it run Netflix, but Amazon Video OnDemand as well. I much prefer the streaming method to the download method and Roku gives me that feature. It even became a hit with my father who bought one for his house. I love the Roku and I'm sure you will too.
Pros: Great value, High quality picture, Easy to set up, Built in Wi-Fi, Easy to use, Video selection, Compact
Cons: No youtube, Inconsistent performance, Need fast internet service

Within minutes of opening the well-packed Roku package we were watching a Netflix movie on our big screen TV. So much better than watching on a computer screen!
Pros: High quality picture, Easy to use, Easy to set up, Great value, Compact, Built in Wi-Fi

It should be stated in the user guide that a tech support person is needed to set the unit up. I would have never figured it out myself. Once it was set up, it was great
Pros: Easy to use, High quality picture, Built in Wi-Fi
Cons: Need Tech sup to set up
I would recommend this to a friend!

I use the Roku in the living room mainly to watch Netflix. Finding videos on our Instant Queue is easy, but searching for videos leaves a little bit to be desired because it is hard to enter text. Overall this is a great product and it has great potential.
Pros: Easy to set up, Built in Wi-Fi, Compact, Great value, Easy to use
Cons: Want more video choices, Hard to enter text

Connection issues

problematic Wi-Fi connection. Would start downloading the update, then loose connection, even with the router sitting right next to it. With a hard wire it finally worked. Google the forums, and found some possible solutions involving changing what wireless channel I use (???? Never an issue for other wireless devices.) Some people it works fine out of the box, I guess I wasn't one of the lucky ones. I bought this for my grandparents, and need to get by there to try to get it to work. I had hoped that a single function device wouldn't scare them too much, and they would use Netflix and dump premium cable. The remote and simple navigation they liked and they were looking forward to using it, the connectivity was just a problem. Not sure if it needs a better wireless antenna (none to be seen), or if it just needs a few more years to get the bugs worked out. For a few $$ more you could buy a game system that can do more.
Pros: Built in Wi-Fi, Compact, Lots in forum, Easy to use
Cons: Connection issues, Want more video choices, Forums not easy to search, Inconsistent performance, Adds on the menu, Need SSID broadcast on
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The device is pretty reliable and stable, although it's had to restart itself a few times unexpectedly. Most channels connect and run seamlessly except for Hulu Plus, which hiccups pretty regularly.
Pros: High quality picture, Great value, Easy to set up, Easy to use, Built in Wi-Fi, Compact
Cons: Want more video choices, Need fast internet service
