This TV took me a while to get it configured to what I like. The soft appearance gives off a very clean smooth look. I'd say it's making people look a bit Photoshopped but hey, no TV is perfect.
My build is an October build, earlier builds besides the August build seem to have the most issues(i.e. Clouding around the edges and light bleeding from the edges of the bezel.) My build do not have those issues. Also, I have read the the buttons on the side are different from the earlier builds this year, so check the box for the build date. The settings will take you a while to get what you consider a satisfactory image, it's trial and error.
Something to consider for folks who may own an HD TV for the first time...check your resolution input from your cable box and make sure it's at 1080 for optimal HD, make sure your settings are not on 720 or lower. Mine was lower and on the stretched setting, so I was getting an ugly picture because the frequency was low resolution AND it was zoomed up. I fixed the settings and it shows MUCH better than before.
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Lightweight, apps, free 3d glasses
I would recommend this to a friend!

Looks great and has a ton of bells and whistles but it would be nice if this thing worked properly. Firstly, as a TV, it's got lot of stutter. I saw this in the reviews too late. It's supposed to be fixed in one firmware update after the next but it never is totally. The image tends to be the most jumpy in non-HD broadcasts. I've fiddled with all the settings for this as recommended online, but it never really goes away. And, btw, I'm not high maintenance or a videophile, this thing just doesn't work well as a TV.
As to the bells and whistles, the Youtube app is useless. Seriously useless. Everyone hates it. It's impossible to find what you're looking for, and if you have a Youtube account and set up your playlists for easy viewing, that doesn't help either because the app does't connect to your personal account.
The web browser is awful. It's difficult to navigate, isn't compatible with several websites, and many video windows either don't work at all or appear like a slideshow.
Overall, I wouldn't buy it again. It is beautiful and it will age well aesthetically, but that pales in comparison to the fact that as a TV, it ain't that great.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Poor Build Quality

I was so excited about this TV back in April. Though having gone through two in just under 3 weeks I can say I was very disappointed. Many problems with light leaks in the corners and edges of the Bezel.
The Good:
3D is amazing, Thin and Sleek.
The BAD:
Poor build quality, light leaks, Banding, Uniformity and flashing. The web TV part could serious benefit from a better web interaction controller, something like a Wii remote to move the cursor on screen instead of moving through the webpage tabbing order.
I have a Samsung 55D7900 now it has a better picture but suffers from some flashing in the corners and lower bottom left side.
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, light leaks, banding, uniformity, flashing
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not Impressed...

Been disappointed with Samsung products lately as I returned a UN55C7000 for picture quality deficiencies. It seems they fixed the D8000 in some of those respects but have new hurldes. The Black levels on the TV are very impressive, but as soon as you turn your brightness up or if it is in a middle grayscale, my entire left side of the screen lights up brighter than the rest of the panel.
Motion in darker scenes tend to leave color trails, especially around faces. The pixels cannot turn dark fast enough when lighter colored objects are moving, thus leaving a lighter color trail where the object used to be on screen. Could be caused by having Auto Motion Plus turned on, but why buy a TV with an advertised feature that does not work? a.k.a. 240Hz
Auto Motion Plus seems to be ineffective at reducing judder, no matter the setting. In my previous experience with the C7000 I returned, the Auto Motion Plus was actually a nice feature that I enjoyed. Made it seem as if you were looking through a window, but I guess Samsung decided to go a cheaper route this year, cause the only setting that seems to work is 'OFF'.
For how much this TV is going for right now, I truly believe this is not worth your money or time. This could be a defective set I received, but you can bet if I see the same problems after an exchange, this puppy is going back. Will update with new information soon.
Pros: Lightweight, black levels
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
