This has the best picture - no black edge and a great slim design. Easiest Smart TV I ever used. I've never seen a picture like it.

Do the research!

If you are a video / gamer / audio / new kind of enthusiast you need to do your research. I have been a fan od the Samsung Series TVs since the series 6. My mom had a series 6 and before I had the series 8 I had a series 7. The truth is you get what you pay for. Is the Series 8 worth it? YES...and here is why. LED Motion Plus with Auto Motion Plus crates such a pristine picture you would not beleive it. FYI...You need to have not only the TV but a cable that can handle 240 Hz throughput, Optical capabilities on your receiver, a good surround system and a B-Ray Player that has the specs to do what you need. If your a bargain hunter do it online and if your a retail junkie that needs someone to tell you what you need go to 3 places before you buy. The Apps available on the Samsung App Store are not as extensive yet as the Play Store butt they will get there annnd the expandable hardware feature introduced iiin the 8 series is Briilliant. Do you have a Galaxy phone, tablet or a home media server? This bad boy is DLNA compliant and you should stop asking questions now. Be mindful that if you are buying this TV to watch brodcast TV (Not HD DDirecTV or Comcastt XFinity) it wont look as good as it does on a cheap TV because tis TV shows you what it truly is... not HD. I dont pay for TV and never will. This TV is for online content and amazing B-Ray and 3D Quality. People who give negative reviews on this TV are not technically savy. If you are one of tthose and find this review intuiging then do your research. There is no manufacturer that can come close digital family inegration as Samsung. I own the following and the integration between my media server, phones, tablets and TV are AMAZING!!!!!
Galaxy Vibrrrant
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy S II
Galaxy S III
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 2
Galaxy Note 10.1
55" Series 8 240 Hz LED TV
One Downfall. Samsung has not partnered with Real Player to allow RMVB file support but there are ways to get around that. Samsung I emplore you...get RMVB support with real player!
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight, amazing
Cons: no rmvb file support.

Bad Picture

Love the size and the design of the TV but the picture quality is just plain bad. In "HD" no difference to SD and both are poor.(other TV's in house have good picture so it's not a reception problem). Remote will kill your batteries and send you broke buying more, (new set at least every 2 weeks).
Pros: design
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Did not meet expectations, bad picture, remote kills batteries, smart tv is slow and not smart at all, bad blure when watching sport, bad picture when watching movies, bad picture when watching tv
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great

Pros:
Easy setup.
Lightweight.
Great picture.
Many, many features.
Universal app control.
Price is fair for all that you get in this tv.
Cons:
Internal speakers are so so, but it has them at least. Bass will crackle on speakers even if lowered.
Not really a con, but something to get used to. The picture is so sharp at the 240 clear refresh. Movies that are usually lens grained are reprocessed, and that graininess your used to is gone. A little strange for me at first, but a testament to how good, and clear the picture is.
Side by side comparison at the store is unmatched. This TV. owns them all in picture clarity.
Hard to call it a TV. actually. It's defiantly smart.
Pros: Bright display, Inexpensive, Durable, Realistic color, Lightweight
Cons: internal speakers.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I just received this D8000 television and it is everything Samsung promotes it to be. Thin, the color is so vivid and bright it looks like a high rez printed photograph. It programmed quickly, found my wireless system immediately and connected to the internet without generating any frustration to me. Great job Samsung. Just another wonderful product in your line. Love It!
Pros: Built-in speakers, Bright display, Realistic color, Lightweight

Samsung rocked my TV watching world

My quest for a television for the bedroom as been long and arduous. After bringing home this 2011 Samsung 55" 8000, it's finally come to satisfying end.
We started with a competitors 55". The TV worked for about 15 minutes and then failed. Competitor offered to send a tech out, but we declined. When it did run, the competitor's TV had a great image. We instead opted to have it returned.
Having already bought competitors 3D glasses and IR dongle, I tried another 55" tv from the same company. It had a beautiful design and mostly worked. Unfortunately, there were two dark spots on the screen. Other than those two dark spots, the TV was a good TV. We did notice a little weirdness with the local dimming causing the whole image to sometimes get noticeably brighter and dimmer when there was a scene that was just on the cusp. The 3D was decent, but 3D video where there was a lot of contrast between something in the foreground and background did bleed through a fair amount.
We called up competitor about the dark spots and they had a company that services TVs get in touch with us for a fix under warranty. The company indicated the panel needed to be replaced but the replacement was on backorder. After a week or two, we got a call from competitor offering to replace our TV since the part was on backorder. A few weeks after that, we got a call again from competitor indicating the TV was on backorder and wouldn't be available for 2 months. We got in touch with the company we bought it from and they coordinated to have the TV returned.
The day the TV was returned, we went to our local brick and mortar store to check out TVs in person. The new 2011 Samsung 55" 8000 was our favorite. After all the problems we had with the last two TVs, we decided to purchase at a brick and mortar store so we could easily return the TV if it failed to live up to our expectations. We loaded the Samsung in the back of a Corvette (the TV box, like the TV, is relatively small) and drove it home.
We unpacked the TV and it was awesome. When we bought the TV, we got a starter kit with glasses. Apparently they don't use IR for the 3D glasses anymore, they've moved to bluetooth according to the sales guy in the store. The 3D on the Samsung blew away the 3D on the previous TVs. All of the ghosting we saw on the other TVs was gone. Tangled 3D, Shrek 1 3D and GranTourismo 5 looked great. In addition, we haven't noticed the dimming on the Samsung. They've done it so well it just makes for a great looking picture instead of something distracting.
I love this TV. it looks great when it's off. The picture quality looks great when it's on. To top it off, it works really well with my new receiver. I needed an HDMI 1.4a switch to pass through 3D. I couldn't find any HDMI 1.4a switches, but receivers with HDMI 1.4a weren't too expensive. The frustrating thing about TVs has always been getting audio from the TV back to the receiver. With HDMI 1.4a, there's an audio return channel. The same HDMI cable that carries audio and video from my receiver to the television can be used to send audio from the television back to the receiver. I did fail to get this working at first as the audio return channel is only supported on HDMI2 (labeled as ARC on the back of the TV). A quick perusal through the manual clarified this. Since we would never use the TV tuner (live TV, this day in age? Come on, who watches TV without a DVR? Who even uses broadcast television, cable or over the air?), I didn't think this audio return channel thing would be all that useful but the TV has support for Hulu, Netflix and Pandora built in. Starting up these apps on the TV cause the receiver to automatically switch to audio from the TV. The TV itself will turn the receiver on and off and when the receiver is on, the TV automatically disables the TV speakers and the volume control on the TV remote actually controls the receiver volume. I didn't have to spend hours figuring out how to set all of this up either, it just worked.
It is nice that the remote has a flip side with a qwerty keyboard. The qwerty side of the remote uses bluetooth instead of IR and must be paired. As noted in some of the other reviews, the pairing is tricky to get working. You will have to hold the remote inches from the TV (for pairing only, and you only need to pair once) and probably try multiple times. I ended up getting my remote in a weird state where I couldn't pair it. Calling tech support, the phone tree wasn't deep and I didn't have to wait on hold. The technician informed me of the trick of holding down the @ and backspace buttons for a few seconds to reset the remote. After that, the pairing worked on the first try. It was disappointing the reset magic wasn't included in the manual, but Samsung more than made up for it by having a live person for me to talk with that required no hold time.
Keep up the great work Samsung!
Pros: Bright display, Realistic color, tiny bevel, great 3d, coordinates with receiver
