Good affordable set

This is my first big screen television and I have to say that I made a good purchase.
Some pros for this television: Great picture (especially when calibrated), wireless USB B/G/N adapter included, DLNA certified, internet apps (Netflix is nice), lots of HDMI inputs, fair amount of options for settings, cinema mode works great and its a great looking design,.
Some of the first materials I put on this set to calibrate it were Blu-rays of Pixar films and The Dark Knight, but I have to say since calibration almost all movies I've thrown at it look great (especially my HD content). Planet Earth looks especially stunning. Broadcast HD looks just fine, and the set picks up stations fairly well and easily. Set up was a breeze, but there are lots of options for fine tweaking within the menus. Will also remember picture settings for different inputs, and you can quickly switch between your custom presets.
Now some cons: While black levels are great in some instances, the local dimming on the TV can make them vary widely on certain content and blooming can be rampant in darker films and TV shows if the black levels are set to low (which gives the deepest blacks). Unfortunately, there is no option to disable local dimming in any menu. They only work around I've found is to use the Game picture mode, but it sacrifices 24Hz playback ability. Some people may not care about this, but I partly bought the LG brand due to high reputation of proper 24Hz playback (which it does do very well). That is my biggest gripe with the set. The "Wand" (Wii-like) remote isn't very useful and I abandoned it quickly. Reading DLNA menus can be difficult, as you have to wait for titles of content to scroll. Connecting to online services is fine, but can take a few minutes and can load somewhat slow for my taste (this is over my wireless N connection 10 feet away). I also was sad to find out that there is no DTS audio pass-through for devices on the HDMI inputs.
Many of these issues probably won't bug most people, but it may factor in for the few that could use a few of these features. As I said, the biggest issue is the local dimming / blooming problem, which could bug the average viewer. Hopefully (and I really do hope this happens) LG will issue a firmware update to unlock this option in picture modes so that we can at least have it available to possibly get a more consistent experience. I've read it is available on similar sets, so I'm not sure why it's not on this particular model. If the local dimming / blooming issues are eventually resolved via an update, my review would probably be bumped up to 5/5. I also can't say anything as to its sound, because we've always used our external system with it.
Overall though, it's still a great television and I would definitely recommend it.

We have owned this TV for about 6 weeks and are very pleased with it. We are still learning to use all the features and we have found the on-line manual to be more helpful than the written manual that came with the unit. So far, we are very happy with this purchase.
