Great Printer BUT...

After purchasing--Brother had to replace the entire unit...It would drop the paper when it went to print and jam. The replacement unit has worked fine. I do not have any issues with the quality of the product.
I have an issue with using the printer. Everytime I want to do something out of the ordinary, like double side print, feed from the back, etc. There are too many steps involved and you MUST have the manual and hope for the best.

Wouldn't buy the same again

I originally picked this machine because of the dual trays and the promise of easy duplex printing. The large scanner bed was also a plus. However, the color produced by this machine is so inferior that I am using a smaller/older HP for property brochures and flyers and anywhere else where the colors are important. I am ONLY using the Brother inks in this machine, so "inferior", "off-brand" ink is not the problem.
Also, on my old HP, the scan function let me control the specifics of each scan whereas the Brother is "take what you get". On the HP, I could scan to PDF and add or subtract sheets during the scan, if necessary. Also, I could crop and rotate during the scan AND I could specify the scans name and where it would be saved. Not on the Brother.
If I were shopping for a machine today, I would not buy this one.....I'd get an HP.

Not Bad !!!

I spent 6 months looking for a printer with this printer's attributes & within my price range. Finally found & purchased this one. It is slower than my HP, but costs 4 times less per page than the HP. The docs I print in PDF are legal & letter and this printer does the job (selects the correct paper size). Print quality is good. Scanning from page feeder & faxing work very well. DRAWBACK: if printing a large doc (80 + pages), check the document. My printer seems to like to pull 2-3 blank pages when it should only pull one. (will call support to see what I can do to stop this)

while this is a great printer for reports and letters it has a long way to go before it will be concidered even a ok photo printer. It has poor photo software aand prints poor pictures. I bought this unit to do large size photo primting and I am very unhappy with the results it gives.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I am a musician and I needed the 11 X17 printing capability. I am totally happy with the machine and its performance. If I had a complaint, it is that it is noisy when it loads paper during the printing process - but it works.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is my second MFC from brother. The first one was great. I purchased the 2nd one when I changed jobs. This printer does it all very well. The main reason I chose this model was the scan/print 11x17. The technicians in the field really appreciate having a drawing they can read. I use all functions only because some are still dependent on fax communications. I hate faxing but this machine handles this chore flawlessly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This printer is for medium to heavy use.
This unit has extra paper storage and a extra large scanning surface.
I have had the best luck with Brother Printers from ease of use and to notification of updates.
Award winning function and service!
Brother has the best Value in printers.
My other printer is a Brother MFC-J425W , see other review.
I have also had Brother MFC-9420CN that served me well.
