Nice try, maybe the next version will work. Touch input and keyboard work but after downloading the help module and going through it several times I learned the pen does exactly nothing. For example, you're supposed to hold the pen button and trace around part of a photo to "automatically" invoke cut and copy, but in fact the ONLY thing that ever happens is the stupid pen menu pops up, and none of the selections on that do anything.
To top it off, the only way to register is to give the mac address and there is no way to do that. Samsung should get one of these themselves and try doing things before publishing help.
Big disappointment. Wait for the next model, may have some of the bugs out.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Beware! Severe Screen Bleeding and discoloration!

Beware! Test it before you buy it! Because you migth get a unit with severe Screen Bleeding and discoloration. Must have been unlucky with my unit.
The unit that I got suffers from severe light leakage (bleeding) around all the bottom edge, with a particular focus on the bottom left. And even worse, in the upper right corner suffers from discoloration (yellow) and also severe light leakage. As a consequence, the colors aren´t accurate. The colors image quality are worse than the note 10.1 of 2013, that I also have.(and can compare to) Therefore, when purchasing, be advised: do the test with a dark image to see if you have a defective unit. Inadmissible that Samsung has missed this test quality, having failures like this, in a product in which the screen/Display is the most important part! Unlucky, but a bad display like this should never passed in the QC!
Pros: Built-in speakers, Lightweight, good apps!, great spen
Cons: Poor quality, Not high def, Did not meet expectations, inaccurate colors, display qc issues!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bluetooth connectivity issues and battery issues prevent me from recommending.

I love the portability of this tablet. Its size makes it comfortable to use in a variety of scenarios. But not being able to use a bluetooth keyboard with ease is disheartening. I purchased a keyboard to be able to use this tablet for more than just video watching. But the constant disconnect even while typing (you would think a constant signal would keep it working) makes work very frustrating. Factory resets and even an update to Kit Kat didn't fix the problem. I was thinking that maybe it was the tablet that was malfunctioning. But then I saw that this is a universal problem and not an isolated issue, with few not having this issue. The need to play audio while typing so it doesn't shut off is stupid and isn't a reliable fix. Even when audio isn't playing a bluetooth headset will constantly disconnect and reconnect. I'm typing on a bluetooth keyboard on the Note 12.2 and have yet to have a disconnect...which is why I thought an update to 4.4.2 for this galaxy note 10.1 would have fixed the issue; it didn't. It's a great tablet if all you want to do is watch videos, play games, or do anything that involves the internal speakers or the touch screen. But if you want a tablet for productivity, where external accessories is a must, look elsewhere for a tablet...like this 12.2 by samsung. That's gonna get a great review from me...look: still no disconnect. If I was typing this review on the 10.1 with an external kb, well, I wouldn't have gotten this far. Fail
As far as the battery goes, this tablet lasts a long time under standby. But once I start using it for a length of time, its like the tablet forgot to track the usage, and the battery % could drop 40% in 10 minutes. But oh my gosh: once it gets to the battery save mode of less than 5%, it lasts for hours. I've been able to use that tablet for over an hour on just 2% battery. Meaning, this tablet can't track battery life for anything. Its really hard to use in power save mode because the brightness isn't adjustable. This was the case for both 4.3 JB and the update to 4.4.2.
This is a good tablet but it has too many quirks to overcome to recommend to a new user. Its a great standby tablet, if I'm not exhausted from using the 12.2. And I don't believe that my tablet is the issue, considering I'm not the first one with these problems. I don't want to have to keep returning a tablet hoping that the NEXT one is the cure.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight, responsive, battery life (once it gets it act together)
Cons: Did not meet expectations, bluetooth disconnects, audio could be better, battery life stats atrocious, downgraded to a standby tablet for portability, feels like a lottery to get a less-flawed product
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best Tablet on the Market

I've owned this tablet for a close to a year now, and can only say nothing but outstanding things about it. This tablet is not only beautiful, but its powerful, durable, and helps me accomplish work with ease while at home (mainly) or on the go. The multi-window feature along with the use of the S-Pen is fantastic. The camera quality is nothing short of amazing (for being a tablet). What else can I say...everything works flawlessly. The tablet is amazing. I'm super happy with this purchase.
First and foremost great tablet with lots of things going for it. The redundancy of functionality between Samsung and Android/Google is a little distracting especially for any newbie. It's not hard to get lost in the many levels of navigation and setups. As stated by many before me there's just lots of software preloaded that's just not necessary and amounts to tech clutter. But man does this thing work smoothly, video, audio NAS access, mail, notes and lots more. Full use of the S Pen as a way of life will take me a while, but it functions as advertised.
Pros: Bright display, flawless function
Cons: bloatware
I would recommend this to a friend!

Gets awfully hot when using it. Kind of wished I had gone w/a lap top - would've been cheaper too
